We share with both sorrow and peace that our Mom, Rose Gomez, has gone home to be with Jesus. She is whole, she is free, and she is face to face with the One she loved. We will miss her deeply, but we rejoice knowing this is not the end only the beginning of forever. Ending my career, I am nothing but grateful. I’m humbled knowing that a softball player from Alaska isn’t expected to share the field with the top softball players in the nation. We don’t grow up with fancy facilities, year-round softball weather, local college teams, or surrounded by girls committed to nationally ranked schools. But somehow, I found myself competing with the best hitters in the country and doing things I once thought I never could. People told me these would be the hardest yet most rewarding years of my life—they were right. I leave this sport knowing I gave it everything I had, and it gave me even more. From my first college jersey I chose the number 28 for my brother and dedicated my career to him. Through the early mornings, long days at school from 6am–6pm, and community service, I had him in mind and kept going. I’ve had little girls nervously hand me my trading card to sign and people call me their favorite player—and I don’t know what I did to deserve any of it. I’ll always be thankful for every after-game text and all the people I met through this sport. I only hope to give back a fraction of what it’s given me. Especially to my Alaska girls: you deserve it. You CAN do it. Softball has been my consistency, my escape, and my inspiration. I’ll have to find new inspiration, but I’ll carry its lessons with me forever. To the sport, my support system, and everyone who’s ever taken a chance on me- all that’s left to say, is thank you.

been dreading this post for 11 years but it’s time to hang up the cleats… this sport has provided me w memories that will last a lifetime. it has given me some of my best friends, and taught me valuable life lessons that i couldn’t get anywhere else. i thank God for the abilities and opportunities He has given me, and for all the amazing people He has put in my life through softball. the end of an era 🥹💚

Senior Day was on Friday and Rose was one of four seniors being honored. It was a momentous day for our girl and we celebrated her time at Lamar. We are so proud of Rose and her commitment to finishing strong! 19 years of softball. We’re proud of you, @therosegonzo

*Her biggest fan* Martin began coaching Rose when she was just 4 years old and continued to coach her until she turned 13. Over the years, he took on many roles—her first throwing partner, pitching coach, agility trainer, mental coach—but above all, he never forgot he was her dad first. He was there to hug her on the tough days, encourage her when she was her own biggest critic, and take her to QT to get a Freezoni after games because that was their bonding time. He always spoke well of Rose to other parents, not because of who she was on the field, but because of who she is as his daughter. There were countless hours spent driving all over the metroplex and back, there were early morning work days just to get out in time to drive Rose to hitting practice. He got up early on game days to make her breakfast or get her snacks together and load the cooler for the 8 hr long tournament days (iykyk!). And if you were to ask Martin, he would say he’d do it all over again without hesitation…for Rose. Seeing them together on the field one last time, as Martin threw Rose the ceremonial first pitch, was a beautiful full-circle moment. It was never just about the game—it was about the bond they have shared through it all. I’m so grateful they had that special moment together ❤️
