Showing up to the LTK CON as the only orthodox influencer is already pretty intimidating - adding to that the fact that I dress modestly and I’m at 7 months pregnant might have created some anxiety…… proud of myself for showing up regardless of all that and staying true to my values all while still pulling off some pretty classy looks. So which outfit is your favorite? #ltkcon #modestfashion #jewish #orthodox #tznius

WHAT’S IN MY BAG 👜🩺

I’ve been fortunate to spend time shadowing in a variety of outpatient clinics over the past few years. Every patient who has been willing to let a student into the room has given me the opportunity to learn, often during a visit that’s stressful, emotional, or deeply personal. I’m incredibly incredibly grateful for that trust. Here are a few of the things that usually end up in my bag for these clinic days.

This has become one of my non-negotiables. I rarely eat breakfast on a typical day, but I learned pretty quickly that clinic mornings are different. Standing for long periods and moving from room to room left me lightheaded more than once, so now I always pack something with protein before heading in and it allows me to be fully present for each encounter! It also helps that many of the clinics I’ve shadowed aren’t particularly close to kosher food, so packing ahead has become part of that routine!!

The office essentials are really there for one reason, to make it easier to learn. I fill my notebook w/ questions I want to look up later, concepts I want to understand better, or reminders from conversations with physicians. If there’s a good moment between, I’ll usually pull out my iPad and read some primers relevant to the specialty or whatever question came up that day.

Before shadowing, I try to ask what they’d like me to wear. Some clinics prefer business attire, others prefer scrubs, and every office really has its own culture. I’ve been lucky that many of the clothes I already owned from dressing tznius translated really well to clinic attire. But if it’s ever unclear, I’ve found it’s usually better to err on the side of being a little more formal (as opposed to jumping to scrubs). After the first day, it’s pretty easy to get a feel for what’s typical!

None of these are make or break (except the hospital badge), but they’ve all made shadowing days a little more comfortable!

Most of these are little quality-of-life items that don’t seem important until you need them. Lotion after a day of hand sanitizer, sunscreen throughout the day, lip balm etc… The one thing I never
