POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

People see me on social media or traditional media and may not realize just how clinical I am. I’ve been a licensed and practicing professional therapist for 20 years. I also am the leading professional in the field of what’s known as Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

About 10 years ago I founded a training organization that is now the world’s leading Solution Focused Brief Therapy training organization for clinicians. Next week my team and I are hosting a free online lecture.

So if you’re a mental health professional visit my website at www.elliottconnie.com and sign up to join us. Again, it’s completely free! Just act fast, my Zoom room is filling up for this event.

Wanting to help someone you love can sometimes create pressure for both of you.
Psychology offers another way to think about support: behavior change is more likely when people feel understood, connected, and able to make their own choices.

Different psychotherapeutic approaches offer different tools:
🩵 Narrative Therapy separates the person from the problem and helps them reclaim authorship.
🩷 CBT helps us question fear-based assumptions and try collaborative behavioral experiments.
🩵 ACT encourages us to notice difficult thoughts without letting fear make every decision.
🩷 Relational-Cultural Theory centers mutual empathy, connection, and awareness of power.
🩵 Solution-Focused Therapy looks for exceptions, strengths, and small signs of progress.
🧡 Adlerian Therapy uses encouragement to strengthen confidence and capacity.

These perspectives help inform how Resolve approaches Dyadic Motivational Interviewing—or DMI. Rather than telling one person what to do, DMI creates space for the person managing a chronic condition and their caregiver to:
• Hear both perspectives
• Clarify shared goals
• Choose a realistic next step
• Protect autonomy while staying connected

Your Voice: Have your efforts to support someone ever been experienced as controlling or as taking away autonomy? What might have helped the support feel different?

Sometimes it’s a normal weekend, and sometimes you are lucky enough to get the chance to share space and break bread with the top minds in solution focused brief therapy in Niagara on the lake!!

Words cannot express my gratitude for Adam and Elliot’s guidance and support and for the fundamental role they have played in helping me find my voice 🫶

Thank you to all my friends, new and old, for making this weekend an amazing experience!

I’m about to announce a massive shift in my business; I’m both excited and scared about what’s to come. Ever since 2019 my organization (@thesolutionfocuseduniverse) has been the global leader in training for Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

What started as a dream to make this approach to psychotherapy more accessible eventually grew to generating well over a million dollars of annual revenue every year. More importantly we have impacted the work of hundreds of thousands of professionals with our trainings.

Now, we are about to make a massive shift in how distribute our materials and how professionals can access our field leading courses and certifications. These changes are necessary due to global economic changes, as well changes in the way people consume content online.

Stay tuned! And if you’re a professional interested in Solution Focused Brief Therapy then be sure to join my email address on my website. The announcement is coming soon!

The @thesolutionfocuseduniverse is a special organization and a special community. One of the key reasons for this is that we are led by Anna Francis. We salute you Anna on International Women’s Day and everyday.

4 years ago while at a training in Las Vegas led by the first three people in this post I told myself I’m going to be part of @thesolutionfocuseduniverse team in some way! Today it’s website official! This is a big milestone for me and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Thank you @elliottspeaks, @adam.froerer and @annafrancis.nz for seeing something excellent in me and helping nurture it over the years. Hope changes everything!
