I’ve been relishing in gratitude..
Our wonderful documentary @playitlouddoc has been nominated for a Canadian Screen Award.
This film holds such a special place in my heart — it’s been a defining part of my journey. It came into my life at a time when I was still finding my footing, and as documentary filmmaking so often does, it challenged me, stretched me and shaped me as a Producer and Assistant Director in ways that I carry forward in my career.
I’m endlessly grateful to have worked alongside such brilliant, passionate, generous humans who gave so much to bring this film to life, both in Canada and Jamaica.
Our brilliant Director, and my good friend @gramantics said it best:
“There are too many stories to tell and too many people to celebrate in one documentary, but we are honoured to have had the opportunity to tell the life, journey and undeniable musical and cultural contributions of @jaydouglasmusic, Jackie Richardson, and the many Black and Jamaican artists who immigrated here to this new land, and forever changing the cultural landscape that is Canada.”

Special shoutout to the brilliant team that masterfully recreated Jays memories of Jamaica, Seattle, and Toronto over three different decades (in film terms: an 80+ shot list).. in just two shoot days!!
