It was great seeing our friend, Victor at THE STEER last night in Buffalo. He is from 2,558 miles away and he was at the same spot at the same time in Buffalo. He came up behind us when we were seated and we were all surprised to see eachother.

The Steer on Main Street always has great food. The waitress was great and the owner always is welcoming when you walk in.

"Operating since 1969 in Buffalo's University Heights neighborhood, The Steer Restaurant & Saloon is a neighborhood staple known for wood-fired steaks, classic Buffalo bar fare, and a cozy pub atmosphere near the University at Buffalo South Campus. It bridges the gap between a casual family restaurant and a late-night social spot. Features Real wood-fired New York strips and king-cut ribeyes and Buffalo Classics: Wings, beef on weck, Friday fish fry, and local-favorite stingers."

🚤 Boat day, a book review, and more summer photos. ☀️

🦒 West with Giraffes (not Water for Elephants or West with Elephants as I kept calling it) was our July book club pick. This book is based off the true story of the famous hurricane giraffes of 1938. Giraffes are amazing, sweet creatures and this book had some beautiful scenes with them. However, I personally did not find much enjoyment in reading about how humans horrifically tore these giraffes from their home and natural environment in Africa, put them on a ship that goes on to survive a hurricane to sail across the ocean in cages, and then again were put in cages in a truck to drive across the country only to be kept in a zoo in cages for human entertainment and profit. (Of course I recognize zoos also do work for conservation so they’re obviously not all bad but the book also didn’t touch on that topic at all. The focus was the journey of the giraffes which is fine but again, I personally found it more somber, not cute, to read bc human interference with animals almost always involves cruelty.) Along this cross country trip, they encounter many challenges, hardships, and even violence that they remarkably survive, but I couldn’t help thinking the whole time - the giraffes shouldn’t be in this situation in the first place! These people put them in horrific situation after horrific situation. The roadtrip was long and felt repetitive. Sure, there were some characters who truly loved the giraffes despite what they were doing to them but overall, humans are the worst enemy to animals and to this planet. There are some reveals and minor character development toward the end but at that point I was exhausted. 🦒

@thesteer on Main Street in Buffalo, NY, has some great food. The atmosphere is nice, and the owner is awesome. He is cooking the food and working on the grill. I asked if I could have their steak sandwich with one of their stuffed banana peppers on it. He said, of course, and that they can do it.

He came back a little bit after with the nice steak sandwich that was grilled with the stuffed banana pepper, caramelized onions, greens, and cheese it was fabulous and I absolutely loved it. The home-made bread was amazing too. They get the bread from next door from @lakeeffectdiner

The sandwich is called 3151 Main Street Sandwich
