What does Legacy in Motion look like?

It looks like a community of individuals coming together with one mission and one voice to accomplish something bigger than any one of us could do alone.

This past Homecoming and Reunion season, I joined the my Howard University Class of 2005 Reunion Committee with a clear goal: help increase funding for the next generation of Howard University alumni by establishing our class Student Endowment Fund.

Our original goal was to raise $150,000.

By Homecoming, we had already exceeded that goal and proudly presented a check for $211,363.

And now, less than six months later, our class came back even stronger, raising an additional $100,000 to present during the Charter Day Dinner. To make a total of $302,526.96.

When I suggested the theme “Legacy in Motion,” it was rooted in the idea that while we honor our past, we must also actively invest in the present and future. Legacy isn’t something we only celebrate. It’s something we continue to build.

It has been an incredible honor to serve as Co-Chair of Marketing and Communications, but this moment belongs to more than a committee.

This accomplishment belongs to the entire Class of 2005, a class that showed what’s possible when we unite around a shared purpose.

Our hope is that others will follow suit so that there will never be a time when a Howard student has to question whether they can receive an education because of a lack of funding.

That’s what Legacy in Motion looks like.

We are incredibly proud to announce that the Howard University Class of 2005 – Forever HU’05 has officially raised $302,526.96 for the Howard University Student Endowment Fund! 🎉

Last night, during the Charter Day Dinner, our class had the honor of presenting the check—marking a powerful moment of unity, commitment, and legacy.

This achievement reflects the strength, love, and dedication of our entire class. Together, we came together to invest in the future of Howard University and the generations of students who will follow in our footsteps.

Forever HU’05. Legacy in Motion.

To every classmate who contributed, shared, encouraged, and supported this effort—thank you. We did it! ❤️💙

It’s been exactly a week since we premiered Things We Imagined at ASHE in Denver, and I am still trying to find the right words for what I experienced.

I knew this project mattered. Seeing how people responded, the tears, the stillness, the reflections, the way Black faculty saw themselves and felt seen, brought the weight of this work all the way home. It reminded me that I am on the right path. Not just as a photographer, but as a collaborator and storyteller who is trying to honor real people and real futures.

For the exhibition, I produced a zine titled As If The Future Knew: A Visual Reflection on Becoming and Collaboration. Watching people pick it up, sit with it, and take it with them meant a lot to me. Creating something physical felt like offering a piece of the project back to the community.

Two years ago, I wrote Candace’s name down as someone I wanted to work with. After seeing what she created with Clusterluck, I felt a deep creative alignment. Not long after, I saw her in the back of a movie theater at a premiere and told her directly that I had written her name down because I wanted to work with her. She was surprised. I was completely serious.

Standing beside both Candace and Charles last week, sharing a director’s cut, sitting on a presidential session panel, premiering the film, and helping build the exhibition felt surreal in the best way. They are my possibility model, and it means so much to have their trust.

The whole team has become like family to me. I am so grateful for everyone involved. It has been an honor to be behind the lens and to work alongside every person who helped bring Imagined Futures to life.

What I keep returning to is this.
Sometimes you do not see the progress while you are in it.
But if you keep putting one foot in front of the other, quietly and consistently, you look up one day and realize you have arrived exactly where you hoped you would be. An imagined future becoming and actualized present.

Still processing.
Still grateful.
More soon.
