King Solomon wore a ring inscribed with three Hebrew letters, “gimmel, zayin, and yud,” representing the well-known Hebrew motto: “Gam Zeh Yaavor” - “This too shall pass.” Even the wisest of men needed to be reminded that all moments in life are transient and will come to pass.

Times of revealed goodness should be treasured. Challenging periods and those obscured by uncertainty are our greatest growth opportunities. No matter where we are in life, we can access joy if we can show up grounded and fully present in every moment we encounter, trusting that we are exactly where we are meant to be in accordance with the will of Hashem.

Rabbi Avrohom Chaim Feuer shares that we can draw inspiration from King David’s experiences. Like King Solomon, we learn that even the most revered figures have grappled with discouragement and despair. David teaches us, though, to confront and unmask the pessimistic voices within ourselves, recognizing them as manifestations of the evil inclination, whose aim is to drain our courage and vitality, rendering us passive and lifeless. David says, “I too have known discouragement and despair. I too have listened to long-winded diatribes from the pessimist inside my heart, but I have unmasked him! I have unmasked them. I know who he is. He is really the yetzer hara, the evil inclination, in one of his many guises. He poses as my friend and claims that he wishes to save me from grief and failure, but he is really my mortal enemy. His aim is to suck every drop of courage and energy out of me and turn me into a lifeless vegetable.”

David reminds us to never give up hope, highlighting the importance of turning to Hashem for assistance in overcoming negative thoughts and doubts. By calling out to Hashem and seeking His comforting words, one can drown out the pessimistic inner voices and find strength to persevere. “Your kindness, Hashem, supported me.” Faced with moments of doubt or fear of failure, like David, we can rely on Hashem’s kindness to support us and guide us through challenging times and remember - This too shall pass!
