Can we give warmups their moment, please? 🔥
A great warmup does more than prepare the body. It prepares the brain and nervous system for the work ahead.
Physically, we’re activating and warming the muscle groups we’ll call upon throughout class. But we’re also doing something equally important: building the movement patterns that will become the foundation of our sculpt flow.
By introducing these patterns at a fundamental level, we create a neuromuscular blueprint for what’s to come—preparing the body to move with greater awareness, control, and intention as we add load, incorporate props, and layer in new challenges.
Because a powerful Sculpt class doesn’t just happen. It’s built with purpose, from the very first movement.
Learn to design powerful, intentional warmups that lay the groundwork for strength, function, and flow in our Sweat Studio Sculpt Training @thesweatstudio 💪 Norwell. Registration is open! We start October 21! sculpt #sculpttraining #warmups

This week in Sculpt class we hinged, squatted, rotated, push, pulled and carried.
When I plan my sculpt classes I create a flow that emphasizes a variety of functional movement patterns, incorporating various planes of movement and prioritizing actions that build strength, balance, mobility and flexibility.
I plan a warmup that is intentional. I foreshadow the movement patterns that we will utilize in class. We warm, we open, we build.
I demonstrate the movement pattern first and then incorporate load through the use of various weights and other props. Once we are comfortable with the movement pattern and load, we can then refine and layer additional challenge and flavor.
I cue to the beat and select my music according to the mood and appropriate bpm that matches the pace of the movement patterns in class.
I cue with a 4 count advance to allow my students to know what the next movement pattern will be so they are prepared.
I know where to inform students to place their props to allow a seamless transition and to maximize our time together.
I always physically go through my classes on my own to experience the movements from the perspective of my students and to make sure that they are challenging and effective but safe and accessible.
I think through how to regress and progress every posture and action to make it accessible and to any person that I am lucky enough to have in my class.
As you can see, a lot goes into the recipe of a successful and FUN sculpt class. If you are interested in learning and PRACTICING these skills as well as garnering FOUNDATIONAL knowledge of STRENGTH, YOGA, PILATES and BARRE, then please join me, @mblakefit , @katelyn_m_gleason and @lauralampert84 for our 100 hour SWEAT SCULPT TEACHER TRAINING @thesweatstudio in Norwell. Dates and details are on the website and registration is OPEN! Classes begin October 21 and space is limited so grab your spot!

Teaching Sculpt, Barre and Pilates does NOT equal Performing a workout, or working out next to your students.

A great instructor isn’t there to simply press play on a memorized choreographed class.

Yes, we need to know the exercises. Yes, we need to understand the sequence. But the real teaching happens when we see the people in front of us.

We cue. We observe. We listen. We adjust. We meet the room where it is, and we make decisions in real time based on what our clients actually need.

Because a Pilates or Sculpt class shouldn’t feel like an instructor performing a workout while everyone else tries to keep up.

It should feel taught.

That’s a big part of what we’ll be focusing on in The Sweat Studio’s upcoming Sculpt teacher training: learning how to move beyond memorizing exercises and into the art of truly teaching.

I am so excited to announce that both Katelyn and I will be your lead teacher trainers for the Pilates and Barre segments of the Sweat Sculpt Teacher Training Program!
