10 years of Gimp Gait — a solo for two, performed with Marjorie Layne Burnett (@layne6605).

A decade later, the dance film we made from the stage work with @jackiesinlove & @thetabathamudra is still making its festival rounds.

Last month: På Tværs Festival (@integrateddancedk) in Denmark, celebrating integrated and disability arts.

This past week: Motion State Arts’ ScreenDance RoadShow (@motionstatearts) traveling throughout New England.

And in November: Cucalorus Film Festival (@cucalorus), the first film festival I ever attended (and set such a high bar!) in Wilmington, NC.

A reminder that you never really know how long a work will keep moving through the world.

What you will see on Friday is the visual amalgamation of a lot of hands and work, but the most
literal manifestation of the Camera Department’s work. This department has to always be on,
whether it was prepping for the next shot or capturing little moments on set (like many of these
pictures I’ve been posting). Most crews have a much larger team, but these guys killed as the
small, yet mighty team. Give it up for @thetabathamudra (Cinematographer), @nicole.asa (1st
Assistant Camera), 2nd Assistant Camera, and @tristanwauchope (Behind the Scenes
Photographer).

Not sure how much I can emphasize that Last Days of Koreshan would truly not have been produced had it not been for Tabatha. While initially agreeing to come on as the film’s Cinematographer—her constant guidance and feedback, and her convincing me to apply for Broward Arts and Culture grant, make me realize she is absolutely a co-producer of this film.
She is the creative calm in the eye of the storm on a film set. This weekend we continued our collaboration by shooting some much needed inserts that will get the cut in order for the WIP screening on Sept 18. Have you reserved your ticket yet?

Since releasing the teaser for “Last Days of Koreshan,
” I want to introduce myself a little bit! Hi, I
am L.Fried, the writer/director/producer of the short film that is inspired by a true Florida Story.
This is my second timing directing a narrative film, my first being “I Know How You Like Your
Coffee”
. I have produced/directed many non-fiction pieces, as well as a couple of music videos
and experimental shorts (“Granny’s Living Room” and “Warmth”). Other roles I tend to take on in
production are within the art department (production design and set dressing) or post-production
(editing, marketing, etc).
Last Days is my first foray into creating a film based on a historical moment and it has been
such an incredibly fun journey. Taking on a project at this scale was also something I thought
was completely out of my wheelhouse, but it’s been such a rewarding and challenging process
every step of the way. I really cannot describe the high that followed the production days, and as
I fine tune the edit—I am really excited to share a Work-in-Progress screening this fall.
What began as a visual of a dead cult leader surrounded by his followers days after he passed
away, gave way to curiosity whethe#r there were disillusions, doubts, or those who remained
unwaveringly faithful. Last Days of Koreshan is meant to poke and prod at belief systems that
leave no room for doubt or questioning. To fit the motif, the screening will give you an
opportunity to voice your thoughts and feedback on the unfinished film, and feature a discussion
between myself and Lyn Millner, the author of “The Allure of Immortality: An American Cult, a
Florida Swamp, and a Renegade Prophet,
” THE historical book on Cyrus Teed and the
Koreshan Unity. Her book truly provided a backbone to my research on the Florida Cult. I hope
to see you all at the WIP Screening September 18 at the Sample McDougald House (where
principle filming took place)!

I rarely get to do behind-the-scenes photography, but I was given the opportunity to capture a lot of cool moments on the set of @lastdaysofkoreshan helmed by @fried.works with the strong support of her incredible cast/crew. Here are a few snaps taken from the shoot.

Very excited for you guys to see more from this film. I’m really lucky and honored to have seen it manifest the way it did.
