Flock is now a household name—but they're not the only AI surveillance camera on the market. MIT is spending $3 million on 521 AI surveillance cameras supplied by Hanwha Vision. In the midst of a budget crisis, MIT is spending millions on AI cameras while shutting down major libraries.

Students also worry that the AI cameras will be used to prosecute students protesting the university.

On the front page of @TheTechMIT’s January 15, 2026, issue: The good news is that the Sussman et al’s lawsuit against me got thrown out of court. As in previous cases, the court protects our First Amendment rights and it distinguishes “anti-Israel sentiment” from “antisemitism.” But, on the back page, there’s bad news. The Tech did not report on @MIT’s EXPULSION of a PhD student for having published an essay “On Pacifism,” and he was expelled under pressure by the Hillel and MIT Israel Alliance lobby (see smoking gun on X; link in comments). This expulsion seems to me and other free-speech advocates (@thefireorg, @mit chapter of @aaupnational, @mesa_1966) in violation of the student’s First Amendment rights — the same rights that MIT has appealed to for its court defense in the Stand with Us v. MIT and in Sussman v. MIT lawsuits (see links in comments). About the student’s EXPULSION by @MIT, The Tech mis-represents my WRITTEN responses to their questions (see photos in post) and inaccurately reports a “suspension” which is far less severe than the actual expulsion — which prevents the student from ever coming back to MIT. I don’t know of any other such disciplinary expulsion in my 30 years at MIT in the context of students expressing their First Amendment rights. Yet another Palestine Exception. In violation of ethical & journalistic standards, The Tech editors have refused to correct their factual error (i.e., their mistaken use of “suspension” instead of “expulsion”) even though I’ve alerted the editors to their error as soon as the article was published. Question for you all: How and why did The Tech reporters manage to misquote my WRITTEN statement to their questions for their news story about a First Amendment / Title VI / Zionist lawsuit? Why have they refused to publish my Letter to the Editor where I correct the record?

At MIT’s 2025 Commencement, the crowd was treated to a heartfelt and humorous speech by science communicator and YouTube star Hank Green @hankgreen . Known for his passion for making complex ideas accessible, Hank reminded graduates of the power of curiosity, humility, and joy. One highlight of his speech was a delightful anecdote about TIM the Beaver, MIT’s beloved mascot. He joked that TIM, being an engineer at heart, would never build a dam without at least five prototypes and a regression model to back it up. The story drew laughter—and a few proud nods—from the engineering students in the audience.

Lors de la cérémonie de remise des diplômes 2025 du MIT, le célèbre vulgarisateur scientifique et influenceur Hank Green @hankgreen a livré un discours plein d’humour et d’émotion. Réputé pour sa capacité à rendre la science accessible à tous, il a encouragé les diplômés à cultiver la curiosité, la modestie et la joie. Un moment marquant de son intervention fut une anecdote amusante sur TIM the Beaver, la mascotte emblématique du MIT. Il plaisanta en disant que TIM, en véritable ingénieur, ne construirait jamais un barrage sans au moins cinq prototypes et un modèle de régression pour le justifier. Une blague qui fit rire l’auditoire, en particulier les étudiants en ingénierie.

ZIONISM = JUDAISM? REALLY? Pwòf Nurit @PeledElhanan, Is such lethal weaponization of language yet another correlate of “mind infection” in Zionist education?

As Israel’s genocide of Palestinians continues in Gaza & while famished dogs & cats are devouring the bodies of the (nearly) dead in the birthplace of Jesus, here’s a little gift from a liberatory linguistics seminar that was banned by my (former) colleagues at @MIT Linguistics @MIT SHASS:

Zionism is NOT & was NEVER the same as Judaism. Here’s a quick & easy linguistic / logical proof in two straightforward steps that show how the two sets [[Zionists]] & [[Jews]] are DISTINCT even if they overlap. In other words there are Zionists who are NOT Jewish (example: CHRISTIAN Zionists) AND there are Jews who are NOT Zionists (example: DIASPORIC Jews):

1) Most Zionists in the US are NOT Jewish. Among them are CHRISTIAN Zionists who are ANTI-semitic. These CHRISTIAN Zionists want all JEWS to return to Israel so that the Rapture happens which will bring CHRISTIANS only, NOT Jews, to heaven—Jews who do not convert to Christianism will be decimated or left in tribulation on earth until they REJECT JUDAISM & CONVERT to CHRISTIANITY.

2) There are branches of JUDAISM, including ULTRA-ORTHODOX Judaism, DIASPORIC Judaism & YIDDISHIST Judaism, where many Jews in these branches explicitly REJECT Zionism. Please read Daniel Boyarin, Amnon Raz-@Krakotzkin, Yoav Peled, Elik Elhanan @Elazar48, JewishBund & MIT Jews for Collective Liberation @MIT_JCL, among many other examples of ANTI-Zionist Jews.

Given these facts & logic, it’s not surprising that there are so called “Jewish” organizations (such as the Anti-Defamation League @ADL_National) that are antisemitic to the extent that they exclude anti-Zionist Jews & support politicians that @ADL_National itself has labelled antisemites. Consider @EliseStefanik who was previously banned by ADL because of her support for the antisemitic Great Replacement Theory & who is now endorsed by the same ADL. It’s now obvious, right from ADL’s own publications, that ADL
supports antisemitic figures, like @RepStefanik, who support ISRAEL — because of Zionism, NOT Judaism.

realtalk@MIT, a program led by MIT’s Center for Constructive Communication, was recently featured in The Tech @thetechmit , MIT’s weekly student newspaper. By fostering conversations across campus, realtalk@MIT seeks to transform MIT into a “listening campus” that promotes shared understanding and empathy. It does so by bringing together the “ancient wisdoms” of human conversation—such as facilitated dialogue and deep listening–with AI technologies. A key component is the creation of audio medleys created from recorded snippets from small-group conversations, which are shared only with the permission of the participants. Key to this effort is the unique impact and connection that comes from hearing the authentic voices of members of your own community.

CCC Director Deb Roy explains that even for the toughest, most controversial topics, it’s important to acknowledge each other's stances by saying “That’s where you stand, and I respect that. Your opinion may not shift at all, but that’s not the goal here.” The goal is to recast conversations into opportunities to build relationships grounded in mutual respect.
