Where else can you watch one son play football while your other son casually rides up on his horse? 😳🏈🐎

Just another day at Thacher! 😂 Gotta love this place.

We recently had the opportunity to visit @thethacherschool in Ojai, California, and came away impressed by a community where rigorous academics, adventure, and personal growth are deeply connected.

Academically, Thacher emphasizes curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful relationships between students and faculty. Small classes, student-designed xBlock electives, and the Senior Exhibition Program give students opportunities to take greater ownership of their learning and pursue their individual interests.

Global learning is also an important part of the experience. Through the Marvin Shagam Program for Ethics and Global Citizenship, students explore global issues, cultures, languages, and perspectives while developing the skills to engage thoughtfully with an increasingly interconnected world.

What makes Thacher particularly distinctive is how much learning happens beyond the classroom. Athletics, the Horse Program, outdoor education, arts, community service, and off-campus study are considered central parts of the Thacher experience. The school’s 427-acre campus also creates extraordinary opportunities for riding, hiking, climbing, camping, and exploring the outdoors.

Athletics emphasize resilience, teamwork, commitment, and personal growth, with students encouraged to challenge themselves whether they are experienced competitors or trying something new.

What stood out most during my visit was how intentionally Thacher combines intellectual challenge with independence, responsibility, adventure, and community. It is a boarding school experience that encourages students to stretch themselves in many different ways.

Another valuable visit and another opportunity to deepen our understanding of the schools and programs available to the families we serve.

There are really two primary questions you need to answer in order to make an astronomical observation: where are you on earth, and what time is it?

We have recently remeasured the geocentric coordinates of the Thacher Observatory using cell phone data. To test the accuracy of our measurements, the Astronomy Research class took a field trip around town (which turned out to be quite an adventure) to check against a trusted standard: the National Geodetic Survey.

While the precision that we measured from our devices was expected, the accuracy was not! Full results coming out soon.

✨ Preparing for what’s next starts with exploring what’s possible.

Our High School Advising Team brought together a day of opportunities designed to help our students and families look ahead, ask questions, and begin thinking about the next chapter of their educational journey.
From connecting with high school representatives to practicing important conversations and hearing firsthand experiences, students had meaningful opportunities to learn, explore, and build confidence along the way.

The day also included a High School Fair, open to students and families throughout the Las Vegas community, providing an opportunity for anyone interested to connect with schools and learn more about the possibilities ahead.

We’re grateful to the schools, admissions professionals, alumni, and families who helped make the day such a valuable experience for our community. 💙🎓

DAY 4 of OPC’s New Works Festival… We closed out the Festival with two powerful plays: THE LOYAL OPPOSITION by Keith Bunin and THE COLLECTIVISTS by Jaclyn Backhaus. Then we said farewell for now, with full hearts and so much appreciation. Thank you for a Festival to remember!
