A dead cameraman. A missing reporter. A case Iceland never resolved. Years after the investigation went cold, a documentary crew returns to the Icelandic landscape searching for answers. What they uncover draws them into a fractured trail of unseen footage, buried connections, and a culture where folklore is never far from the truth. Á Huldu: The Hidden Ones is an atmospheric Nordic-noir mystery blending folk horror, true-crime tension, and documentary-style storytelling. Some stories are forgotten. Others are left alone for a reason. Directed by Darren Borrowman Produced by Gudni Pall Saemundsson, Darren Borrowman & Tom Belding

Introducing the official poster for “Á Huldu: The Hidden Ones” - a true-crime documentary style feature film directed by Darren Borrowman In rural Iceland, a news cameraman is found dead at the edge of a cliff, a horse bridle placed in his mouth. Meanwhile, his reporting partner has disappeared without a trace. Years after the investigation goes cold, a documentary crew returns to reconstruct the timeline. But as long-buried connections emerge, the search for answers opens the door to a new mystery—one shaped by isolation, unstable evidence, and whispers of the huldufólk, Iceland’s hidden people. Part Nordic-noir mystery, part folk-horror,and part documentary-style investigation, “Á Huldu* explores the uneasy space where evidence ends, folklore begins, and some stories refuse to stay buried. The companion podcast is now complete. The film is coming next. Follow along and visit the website to reveal more from the case, the production, and the film’s journey to audiences. This is the final Lighthouse share celebrating 5 years post-release. 💿 Here are some (mostly previously unseen) memories from our writing and recording session in Parrsboro (2021), our photo session by Kylee Nunn, the vinyl arrival, 2 ECMAs (2022, 2023), and our live performance at The Fredericton Playhouse (2022). 💿 I decided to keep things in their original format, mostly chronological, and underscored with excerpts from Lighthouse, Peace in my Life, and Pieces of You. ✨ A few special facts: ✨ You’ll see a lot of selfies. When Ashley passed, I helped by sorting some of her make-up and clothes. I also kept some of her make-up. On each day of the recording, and for every performance, I wear her make-up. There is a connection between make-up dust/sparkles in Pieces of You. ✨ You might also see a big, silver ring. I bought it in high school at Paradise Imports with a dear friend. At some point during Ashley’s treatments, I lent it to her to wear so we could be together on separate coasts. When she passed, the ring was returned to me, and I was given a gold leaf necklace—a gift from her. ✨ In Peace in my Life, there’s a section where I sing a line on “doo doo doo”. This was meant to embrace Ashley’s bubbly and absolutely joyful personality. Despite how emotional this project was throughout every part of its process, it has been so much fun. I had the privilege of creating, collaborating, recording, and performing in ways that I typically don’t get to do. I was and continue to be grateful. 💿 When we made Lighthouse (original working title: Dear Ashley), we wanted the album to be something that everyone could listen to without having to know our personal experiences and connections to the album’s inspiration. These little facts give you a bit of insight into my/our process, but ultimately these songs are whatever you want and need them to be. 💿 Thanks for being here and for listening. Greg and I both have physical copies of the album that are Vinyl but have a CD inside, too. We’d both be happy to move them from our living rooms to yours. You can listen to the album on your streaming platform of choice. ~Maureen

Sharing memories from Lighthouse, 5 years after the album's release. Here is our live performance of "Hope on Ice" from Lighthouse Live at the @fredplayhouse. One of my great joys with this whole project was getting to experience the different phases of creation and production. And I'm still in awe of how @instagrej was able to take our album (with only 2 of us on all voices/instruments) and arrange it for this live performance. The entire team created magic. @singingd, @tania_breen, and @thetombelding are unicorns.

Sharing memories from Lighthouse, which @instagrej and I released 5 years ago. This is Come Find Me In A Dream. After we finished writing and recording the album in April 2021, we set ourselves up to perform a version of this song before tearing down the studio. At the time we didn't know when or how we'd get to perform the works live. Video edited by @thetombelding
