Some of the best business advice doesn't come from a textbook. It comes from someone who's lived it. For our first session spotlight, we sat down with Michelle Chavez of The Tote Project, who's been building a fair trade brand for over 13 years. What's carried her through all of it, a pandemic, a shipment stranded at sea, every hard season, is the network she built and leaned on. That's the lesson our cohort took into the room this week, that asking for help isn't a weakness, that you keep coming back to your people, and that the person who fills your gap might be sitting right across from you. Michelle is the Cofounder of The Tote Project, a fair trade accessories brand that gives back to support human trafficking survivors. She's been writing and speaking about ethical fashion across the country for over a decade. She also serves on the board of Fair Trade Federation and Fair Trade Los Angeles. Michelle lives in Southern California with her husband, two children and rescue pup Jean Valjean. Thank you, Michelle, for showing up for our founders. Swipe through for what we learned.

Here's the scoop from @lb908 ~ ••• 🌴Just as people wear red, white, and blue on July 4th, or green on St. Patrick’s Day... the vision of 908 DAY is that every year on September 8th, residents across the city will wear clothing that represents Long Beach, as they celebrate our community that day by shopping and dining at the local businesses that make their neighborhood special! 😃 908 DAY has become the ultimate “local deal day” with hundreds of small businesses offering discounts and deals to residents “repping” Long Beach to encourage participation across every zip code in the city! ➡️ Check out all the participating businesses and discounts at LB908.COM or the LB908 App! 💚 We call Long Beach “The 908” because every zip code in the city starts with those numbers. We all share “908” in this large and internationally known city. Yet, it’s the distinct character, the small-town feeling, and the diversity of each individual zip code that truly makes this city great. 🌊 908 Day is a chance to celebrate those undeniable truths for every resident in the city.  Put simply, wear something that shows you love Long Beach and visit the places you love in our community!
