📌On the 14th of March, our Director on AI and Human Rights, Lamprini Gyftokosta, participated in an online meeting organised by The Alan Turing Institute “Towards responsible governance of the use of #AI in #recruitment and #employment’. Stakeholders from civil society, government, academia, and industry shared their views on best practices for the use of AI in recruitment and employment, including the #development of #standards in this field.   🔦 Findings from this workshop will help refine the direction and scope of an AI Standards Hub research project led by researchers from The Alan Turing Institute, which will aim to investigate the role of consensus-based standards in governing the use of AI in recruitment and employment #across #jurisdictional #borders.   🔎 In Greece, the pilot project “AI based strategic workforce planning tool for the public sector” as announced by the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, is an initiative that will apply to more than 700.000 people when completed. As Homo Digitalis underlined during the workshop, #harmonised #standards in areas like recruitment and employment, even if voluntary, are necessary to create a culture of #compliance to the new AI rules. 💡 The role of the Greek #supervisory #authority in enforcing the standards and the law will be paramount, especially since according to the Greek law implementing GDRP, the employees cannot authorise Homo Digitalis to submit a complaint on their behalf without disclosing their names, putting them in an imbalanced position. 📚 Read more in EL on our website! This is an example you won’t want to miss – @theturinginst is using Kumu to map the data science community around the climate and biodiversity crisis and sustainability! Check it out yourself at the link in bio :) In their words, “... we believe collaborative data science to be one of the most impactful ways to address this challenge. We need to rapidly develop and disseminate best practice for reproducible, ethical and collaborative data science, along with pathways for impact, leadership and researcher-lead mission development. We can only do this effectively and equitably if we understand the research and innovation ecosystem, so we’re mapping it!” If you want to do something similar, they have plenty of links for you to check out. They’re using a form to add people to their map, and keeping everything organized in Github. This is such a powerful example of using Kumu for mapping, understanding, and growing living communities! Incredible work, Cassandra Gould van Praag and colleagues! #kumunity #kumupowered #networkmapping #networkvisualization #dataviz #networks #datascience #collaborativedatascience

Professor Chris Holmes of the University of Oxford. ( @oxford_uni ) and the Alan Turning Institute ( @theturinginst ) was part of the expert panel who reviewed medical devices for their potential unfair biases in public health settings. On 11th March 2024, the outcomes of the review were published in a report online entitled: “Equity in medical devices: independent report - final review”. Read more on the Department of Statistics website at https://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/news/prof-chris-holmes-part-expert-panel-calling-action-medical-devices-prone-unfair-biases #publichealth #AIinHealthcare #AI #medicaldevices #independentreview A 3/4 shoulder up head shot of a white man with grey and white hair, grinning at the camera. On top of the image is the thin outline of a square in light grey and text that provides a quote from Prof. Chris Holmes: “Now is the time to seize the opportunity yo incorporate action on equity in medical devices into the overarching global strategies on AI safety,”.
