“I only came to support my girlfriend”… A few hours later, Dan was in the shoot.

When one of the models dropped out, not_so_lazymoore was asked if he wanted to step in.

Thankfully for us he said yes!

A skateboarder from Blackpool who also plays basketball, Dan brought a completely different energy to the day and proved that sometimes getting involved is better than watching from the sidelines.

Two years ago, Katie knew almost nothing about basketball… Now she’s obsessed with it.

@katiedaggerr has been modelling since 2020, with previous work including @ratchet.clothing and @itv but basketball came much later after meeting her partner Dan.

What started as something completely new quickly became a huge part of her life.

So when this shoot came up, she applied straight away.

In this reel, Katie talks about how quickly basketball took over and why this project felt like the perfect crossover between two things she now loves.

“I’ve never been interviewed before” … Probably not the easiest way to start a shoot day.

Maisie, @maisieartistry, is a makeup artist with three years of experience and is currently studying for a BA in Makeup Artistry.

Her work usually sits in the world of body painting and avant garde makeup, so this project gave her the chance to step into a completely different environment.

Sometimes that’s exactly the point.

Four years later, Carlton @carlton_ws is back on set.

He first appeared in Heavy Pencil @heavypencilofficial years ago, and a lot has changed since then.

Modelling has taken more of a back seat, his career in medtech has continued to grow, and travelling is still a big part of his life… But every now and then, he still steps back in front of the camera with us.

This reel is a quick catch-up on where life has taken him since his first Heavy Pencil appearance.

At our Brotherhood & Belonging event in London Stephen Manderson AKA @professorgreen said, “The most significant change a man can make is within himself.”

That’s why the work we do at @abandofbrotheruk matters, particularly this during National Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide prevention isn’t just about responding when someone reaches crisis point. It’s about helping men develop the emotional skills, self-awareness and meaningful connections that can help them navigate life’s challenges before they become overwhelming.

We want to help men learn that vulnerability is a strength and that understanding yourself is the first step towards healthier relationships with everyone around you.

If you’re a man who wants to better understand yourself, build stronger relationships and create a happier, more fulfilling life, send us a DM and start your journey today.

“You don’t have to believe everything you think.”

One of the things Stephen Manderson AKA @professorgreen talks about is learning to be kinder to himself. He gives himself grace and recognises that a thought isn’t necessarily a fact.

That feels particularly important during National Suicide Prevention Month.

When we’re struggling, our thoughts can become very convincing. But we don’t have to believe all of those thoughts.

All it takes sometimes is someone saying something that challenges the way we see our situation. Maybe, for you, that’s this post. Maybe this is the sign to question a thought you’ve been carrying and give yourself a little more grace.

At @abandofbrothersuk, we believe change starts from within and that men can learn the skills, confidence and self-awareness they need to create happier, more fulfilling lives.

So if something in this post has made you stop and think, DON'T IGNORE THAT FEELING. DM us. Or follow the link in our bio to find out more about how we can help.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. You just have to be open to the possibility that things CAN change.

At 40, Stephen Manderson AKA @professorgreen learnt something he wished he’d known much sooner: how to sit with his emotions. For Stephen, this understanding is deeply personal. His own dad died by suicide, and he has spoken openly about his experience in his documentary Suicide and Me.

This World Suicide Prevention Day, we’re reminded that often the most important thing we can offer someone is our presence and the reassurance that they don’t have to hide what they’re feeling.

And this is at the heart of what we do @abandofbrothersuk

We believe suicide prevention starts with helping men build happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. We do that by creating meaningful connections, finding purpose, developing emotional resilience and letting men know that they have people around them who genuinely care. Our aim is to help improve men's mental health long before they reach breaking point.

If you know someone who could benefit from what we do. Send this post to them. It could save a life.

At the end of our gatherings, be it community days or our regular circle meetings, we “check out”. It’s a chance to pause, reflect and share what we’re taking away from the experience. How did you arrive? How are you leaving? The biggest shifts in how we feel are often found in the conversations we have and the space to simply be ourselves. Hopefully we leave a little lighter, a little clearer, and a little more connected than when we arrived. If this sounds like something you need in your life…. DM us, we’re a friendly bunch!

Good food tastes better shared 🧡 Making and sharing food is something we do a lot at @abandofbrothersuk and something which brings us together. Cooking side by side, having some laughs, sharing stories and sitting down to eat creates space for genuine connection. Our thanks to @mtccic for having us! If this sounds up your street, drop us a comment or a DM and we will put you in touch with your nearest community.

We know the value of getting outside, working with the elements and getting back to nature. We switch off the Wi-Fi, step away from the noise and are fully present in the moment. A fantastic afternoon spent with @mtccic

Modern Tribe Collective offers access to a range of outdoor programmes and shared activities that support balance, wellbeing and connection.

We @abandofbrothersuk regularly do activities like this so if you’d like to get involved, DM us and we will put you in touch with your nearest community 👍
