Congrats to The Sattva Project on winning their second UNFoundation grant!

They’re teaming up with La Paz Chattanooga on El Arte de Nutrirse, a six-week wellness series for 15-20 Latina women in our community.

The Sattva Project is a Chattanooga nonprofit that brings trauma-informed yoga, mindfulness, and resilience-building to folks navigating stress and hard seasons of life. This time, they’re pairing that work with cultural cooking demonstrations, nutrition education, and fresh produce from local farms, all built for women juggling caregiving, work, and a whole lot of stress with very little time left over for themselves.

Six two-hour sessions will mix trauma-informed yoga, guided meditation, breathwork, and grounding movement with hands-on art, cooking and shared meals, hosted at Chattanooga Culture and La Paz Chattanooga’s kitchen. Local chefs, cultural cooks, local artists and wellness practitioners are all pitching in.

Our $3,000 grant covers artist/facilitator pay, groceries, bilingual handouts, and on-site translation, because good work deserves fair pay and full access. Sessions will take place 10/23-12/4.

The cohort is small, but the ripple isn’t.

Our Ambassadors of Change have been given some pretty incredible opportunities over the past year and we wanted to shine a very bright light on one of them: Having a seat at the table with @theunfoundation

Today, you’ll hear about this experience from @eshanpatel19

My name is Eshan Patel and I am an Ambassador with BTCYI. I have been fortunate to receive the opportunity of being the BTCYI representative trustee with the UNFoundation! I have been loving my time and getting to learn a lot about how our community members are making an impact.

From reading, discussing, and voting on projects I have learned about the many leaders in our community. Thanks to this partnership between BTCYI and The UNFoundation, I have gone through each of the vital steps in the non-profit world. From starting and leading a project, to raising money via digital and in person fundraisers, to writing and receiving a grant, and now giving grants out to the community, many perspectives have opened up for me and I am learning how I can help to make a greater change in our community.

Thank you BTCYI and UNFoundation!

What if we’ve been asking the wrong question about addiction?

This week we met with our collaborators at La Paz Chattanooga and Dr. Rick Dierenfeldt—former police officer and criminal investigator, Professor and Head of the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and Director of UTC’s Violence Reduction Initiative.

In this video, Rick shares a perspective shaped by years in law enforcement and decades of research into violent crime, substance use, and corrections. His words invite us to look beyond behavior and consider what becomes possible when we address trauma, resilience, and healing.

That conversation continues to shape our work.

At The Sattva Project, we believe people heal in relationship—with themselves, with one another, and with their communities.

That belief is at the heart of El Arte de Nutrirse, our six-week collaboration with La Paz Chattanooga, launching in early Fall 2026. Together, we’ll create a space where Latina women can explore healthy whole foods, cultural cooking, trauma-informed yoga, guided meditation, mindfulness, and grounding somatic movement.

Each element is designed to nourish not only the body, but also the nervous system and the relationships that sustain us.
Trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness don’t erase the past, but they can help people reconnect with their bodies, cultivate a felt sense of safety, and begin responding to life rather than simply reacting to it.

We’re currently seeking funding partners and CSA partners who believe fresh, local food, trauma-informed movement, and meaningful community all have a role to play in helping people experience safety, belonging, and well-being.
If you’d like to help bring this vision to life, send us a DM or support the program through the Givebutter link in our Instagram bio.

“When people have the opportunity to reconnect with themselves, they reconnect with one another. Communities become stronger because of it.”

— Tracy Madigan, Co-Founder, The Sattva Project

New program coming soon!

Later this summer, in partnership with La Paz Chattanooga, we will pilot a 6 week program called, “El Arte de Nutrirse: Mindful Nourishment for the Body, Heart + Spirit.” This will be a cohort of 20 Latina women that will weave together shared cultural meals, Ayurvedic-inspired nourishment, mindfulness, gentle yoga and meditation to create a space of safety, connection and healing where women can step out of survival mode, care for themselves as they so often care for others, and build resilience in body, mind, spirit.

We are currently looking for guest speakers to add to each of the 6 weeks: Chefs, herbalists, food crafts, mental health, movement/wellness professionals, Spanish to English translators…CSA boxes, local produce growers…if you want to be a part of helping our neighbors feel less isolated, and more cared for within community (or know someone we should reach out to, please comment below or DM us!)

@lapazchatt Jessica, Wendy, + Brenda- we can’t wait to support you + our friends and neighbors you serve.💗

Yesterday, we collaborated with so many incredible humans to bring to life The Hunter Museum of Art’s sculpture, “Vital Organ: Heart” by Rose B. Simpson. *see below for more on the artist

This reading was at the end of class. We talked about how peace within makes peace possible. That it is our collective responsibility to each other to excavate our shadow selves so that we can become vessels overflowing with love. Love we then share back with our communities through our own inimitable expression…how we “carry water” for each other. How we, “walk each other home.”

The time is now. What will be your offering?

Each expression matters.

*Rose B. Simpson adapts traditional Pueblo Native American pottery techniques to address contemporary concerns like the legacy of colonialism, racism, and capitalism in boldly confrontational mixed-media works. A Rhode Island School of Design MFA graduate, Simpson follows in the footsteps of a long matrilineage of Tewa artists from New Mexico. Growing up, she apprenticed with her mother, a renowned ceramicist from Santa Clara Pueblo. Simpson’s striking figurative sculptures often depict female or androgynous subjects who have an uneasy beauty and powerful presence and are adorned with spiky jewelry and weapons. A skilled metalworker, she also incorporates textiles and ceramics.

We are still on a cloud from yesterday’s Artful Yoga, which raises money for their stellar programming at The Hunter Museum of American Art.

This is what happens when different groups come together in community offering their inimitable gift…their unique expression as joy, as love, as sacred resistance.

Everything is made up. Why not show up every day as the change you wish to see? Fearlessly expressing your right to be here…to take up space to breathe?

Today we are grateful for our friend, Adera Causey, over adult programming at The Hunter, for her trust, her wisdom, her love of art + artists. Thank you @collectively_here + @chatt_circus_collective for bringing our vision of #eachchattexpressionmatters to life thru interpretive dance. Thank you to Daniel Brown @deb_and_flow for your excellent flow/cuing, to he + Onlia Ingraham for taking vision + bringing beautiful people, the energy of love + belonging and FUN to everything you touch. What a gift to collaborate so effortlessly with you. Also, thank you to our community partners who help us raise awareness for our mission + community events.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
