🍄 I Thought They Were Orange Flowers… 🍄

I stepped outside and noticed these beautiful pops of orange in the yard. At first, I thought they were flowers. As I got closer, I realized they were mushrooms.

I immediately reached out to my foraging friends, and every single one of them confirmed the same thing—they were chanterelles. I was so grateful to have knowledgeable people I could trust before picking or eating anything wild.

The more I learned about chanterelles, the more I fell in love with what they symbolize: hidden abundance, prosperity, trust, and the reminder that nature is always providing when we slow down enough to notice.

One of my friends invited me to his restaurant and helped prepare them. We made fried chanterelles, jerk chanterelles, hot lemon pepper, and lemon pepper. Every bite was incredible!

My oldest son, my brother, and I couldn’t get enough of the hot lemon pepper, while my youngest son loved the lemon pepper. My favorite moment, though, was watching my mom. She was convinced they were poisonous simply because they came from the ground. By the end, she realized that something beautiful and nourishing had been growing in her own backyard the entire time.

That moment reminded me that abundance isn’t always something we have to chase. Sometimes it’s already surrounding us—we just need the awareness, the community, and the courage to receive it.

A huge thank you to my friend @novabrown__ and one of my favorite plant-based restaurants @plantbasedandjuiced for sharing your knowledge and preparing this unforgettable meal. If you’re in Atlanta, stop by, show them some love, and tell them Soul Smile sent you. 🤎🍄✨

Have you ever discovered something unexpected that turned into a blessing?
