What a night celebrating some pretty incredible women! 🧡

Last night, I had the absolute pleasure of watching my client (and friend), Dr. Sarah Hutchens of the Vision Development Center (@thevisiondc), receive the Trailblazer Award, and I got to be front row and centre for it all! 🥹

And let me tell you, I am one proud coach!

Sarah, watching everything you’ve worked so hard for come together and seeing you recognized for the incredible work you’re doing is just so special. You are so deserving of this recognition, and I couldn’t be happier for you! The cool thing is, you are just getting started and I can’t wait to see where you go next!

A HUGE congratulations as well to Marie from Terra Wellness (@terraaestheticswellness), who was also nominated for an award and is doing some pretty incredible things in our community. The work you do is so needed and you are incredible at what you do. So proud of you!

And of course, we had some of our Business Circle ladies representing too, which always makes my heart happy. 🧡. Shout out to @becky_reddy and @mommasuetherealtor who are two incredible business owners making big waves in our community and paving the way in their industries.

There is just something about being in a room filled with ambitious women who are building businesses, making an impact, and doing things their own way.

I looked around that room last night and just felt so darn grateful to be surrounded by women like this.

A huge thank you to NLOWE @nlowe_org for putting off such a beautiful evening and continuing to celebrate the women who are making things happen right here in our province.

What a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when women go after the things they believe in.

My heart is full. 🧡

What if we approached lazy eye by asking how BOTH eyes are working together? 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

Over the past two decades, research has helped us better understand the role of suppression and binocular imbalance in amblyopia.

Suppression means the brain processes less information from one eye when both eyes are open. That’s an important part of the picture when we’re trying to improve vision.

👁️ My goal is to help that eye contribute more, while adjusting BOTH signals to develop how the eyes work together. 🧠

Research on targeted binocular treatments (functional lenses, vision therapy, + syntonics) has shown that reducing suppression and supporting binocularity can help improve visual acuity and stereopsis.

Hours of patching aren’t the only approach worth discussing. Patching can improve acuity, but I also want to assess what happens when the patch comes off: suppression, depth perception, and everyday visual function.

Want to understand your child’s amblyopia better and get the research behind it? Comment LAZY EYE for my free guide to learn more. ⬇️

This girl had a crossed eye for 4 years.

She was wearing a strong glasses prescription full-time and patching every single day. After years of no major improvement, surgery was recommended as the next step.

But here’s the part parents need to understand:

A crossed eye is not always because the eye muscle is damaged.

In MOST cases, the eye muscles are perfectly HEALTHY! The brain just hasn’t learned how to use both eyes together effectively.

This child was seeing double almost 90% of her day due to her large eye turn.

After only 6 months of vision therapy, her eye turn isn’t noticeable anymore, and her double vision dropped to around 10% of her day.

And the bonus?

Her vision improved from 20/50 with a +4.00 lens to 20/25 with only a +1.50 lens.

Vision therapy didn’t just help straighten the eye… it helped sharpen her vision and reduce the prescription too.

This is why I will always say:

❎ Patching forces one eye to work.
❎ Surgery moves the eye.
✅ But vision therapy teaches the brain how to use both eyes together.

And for many kids, that’s the missing piece.

If your child has been diagnosed with strabismus, comment EYE TURN and I’ll send you a 50% OFF code for:

✨ The Binocular Boost Activity Guide ✨

The Binocular Boost includes play-based activities you can do at home to support your child’s binocular vision, eye-hand coordination, body awareness, and overall visual development.

It doesn’t replace a customized vision therapy program, but it gives parents a starting point to understand what kinds of activities can help strengthen the visual system through play, especially for kids with Strabismus.

Comment EYE TURN to get started.
