Meet the “black box.”

It may not be the newest technology in the practice, but this cautery device is tried, tested, and true.

Using a very fine heated filament, Dr. Humphrey can precisely treat small benign skin lesions, including sebaceous hyperplasia and seborrheic keratoses. For patients bothered by these small bumps or growths, treating them can make a meaningful difference in the overall clarity and appearance of the skin.

And when there are multiple seborrheic keratoses to treat? Around the office, you may hear Dr. Humphrey affectionately refer to it as a “car wash”, she got that from her good friend Ellen Marmur.

Sometimes the simplest tools remain some of the most useful.

For years, I have been asking our industry to look beyond the procedure and see what is actually receiving the treatment: the cell.

Aesthetic medicine is entering a new era. One where the conversation is no longer simply about how much collagen we can stimulate, but about the health, intelligence and longevity of the cells responsible for creating it.

In this interview, I go deeper into what Cell Centered Aesthetic Medicine means to me, why the microenvironment and extracellular matrix matter, and why our future must move from simply stimulating aging tissue toward protecting it, preparing it and helping it function better.

Because the goal should never be to exhaust a cell in the pursuit of youth.

Regenerate. Don’t exhaust.
