People I photographed for my first book Modernist Estates. We are all 10 years older now.

Thank you Nicki Davis from Frances Lincoln for approaching me at the time with the idea of turning my little blog into a book.

Love these two beautiful watercolours by artist and designer Bengt Orup, were conceived in his native Sweden c1980s after he retired from glasswork. Swipe for the second one - the pair would look perfect over a bed or in a hallway or light bright dining room - in fact pretty much anywhere .

How do you feel a month into #coronalockdown?
Are you waiting for the world to end or imagining your perfect world into being?
We are all affected by death and worry and are all a bit scared but rather than feeding the fear what if we all imagined a place without so much human suffering where we all shop sustainably, refuse to buy things in plastic packaging, eat consciously, care about the earth, sea, sky and animals, have compassion for all human beings as well as nurture our own spirits daily?
.
What if we could be our own alchemists - turn base metal into gold - after all Corona means crown too. Imagine visualising the world the way premier athletes visualise gold medals before they win them. What would your perfect world look like? And are you starting to live it?

I had the pleasure of working on some more AP14 chairs last month in conjunction with @modern_id_uk and @thewisely. Projects like this are always a joy to do as I get to team up with my leather guru @otziltd.

While upholstery machines can handle upholstery leathers, jobs like this require heavy duty machines for specialist thick bridal style leathers.

As a team we did the following: -dismantled the chairs to their components
-re-threaded and replaced all the ceased fixings.
- templated the sling cover into two individual parts.
- Laminated the leather to include a back yolk and decorative stitched each panel.
- grain matched the seat and back to ensure a flow of texture
- installed the slings with some blood, sweat, but no tears!

The restoration of these design icons took one upholsterer, one leather worker, and one fabricator to complete the job, multiple skill sets for one beautiful chair. It’s a lovely way to highlight how every piece that enters the workshop is an individual challenge and a world of problem solving. Knowledge of materials, complimentary crafts and collaboration are all part of our day, and our sleepless nights!

Enjoy!
