Kill the king, many tried, success is yet to come

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Had a big time with the team @triangle_academy_franklin eating it up at the @ibjjf Nashville open. Unfortunately there wasn’t anyone in my gi weight class but there were plenty of studs willing to scrap in the open. In the no gi I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow super heavy who showed me why I should respect his kimura lol. He beat me 0-2 but I came back in the open and got him back 2-0. Super grateful for my coaches and teammates who made this success possible.

First time hitting one of these in competition. I know @thezachheath is proud.

Understanding how to attack the quad pod is an essential skill for jiujitsu. Position over submission always!

Position > submission. Congrats to this guy Blake though. That was one hell of a ride 😂.

The sound matches the video so well lol 😂.
All jokes aside, this guy was a stud. It’s unfortunate that I had to compete against a white belt at this Fuji tournament, but this guy had wrestled for 8 years and gave me more of a challenge than any of the colored belts I’d faced the entire rest of the day.

The pancake is a great tool to add to your wrestling arsenal. I hit this consistently in the training room-Definitely the single best way to punish someone for shooting from distance.

Throwback to one of my first jiujitsu comps ever. Got through all of my white belt brackets until I had this beast in the no gi absolute who submitted everyone in the expert division. Couldn’t believe I actually won that. Clearly you can see I had zero ability to pass or defend the legs and I just got lucky that he panic tapped to the shittiest toe hold ever 😂. But hey I won $360 from this match alone so I’ll take it lol.

Just a few of the first things I’m looking for from an underhook with good head position.

When your opponent has a submission locked up, NEVER flee the mat. It’s always grounds for a disqualification. Congrats to this guy Gavin though. He was smashing everyone yesterday!
