I still remember the first song I ever slow danced to. Back then, you had to work up the courage to ask someone… and if they said yes, you felt like you won the lottery. 😂 But now I’m wondering… does anybody even slow dance anymore? Or has it been replaced by standing next to each other while scrolling on your phones? Tell me the first song you ever slow danced to (or the one you’ll never forget). Let’s see how many memories we can bring back. #SlowDance #MusicMemories #GenX #RAndBMusic

LET THE FUNK DO THE TALKING! Taking it back to 1983 with Zapp and their classic “I Can Make You Dance” (Long Version) on Warner Bros. Records. This original 12-inch vinyl features the full 8-minute, 21-second version, giving you plenty of that signature Zapp funk. Produced by the legendary Roger Troutman and co-produced by Zapp Troutman and Billy Beck, this record comes from the Zapp III album. There’s something special about hearing these records on vinyl, especially the extended versions that DJs could really work with. Who remembers this one? And how many of my fellow DJs still have this original 12-inch in their collection? Real vinyl. Real music. Keeping the funk alive. #InTheBoothWithQuote #DJQuote #Zapp #rogertroutman

So, you didn’t have to wait too long for more Zapp & Roger rolas from their Greatest Hits compilation LP! I went with two dope slow jams for this reel that I know you’ll enjoy! The first rola “I Want to Be Your Man” is a landmark 1987 R&B and electro-funk ballad performed by Roger Troutman. Originally released as the lead single from his third solo album, Unlimited!, the track is widely recognized as a Zapp & Roger classic due to Roger being the frontman and creative mastermind of the family funk group. The song became a massive crossover success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart and peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1988. Roger developed the song around the concept of romantic commitment. He noted that while men often struggle with commitment, women want them to step up and admit their feelings. The lyrics reflect deep vulnerability, capturing a man’s intense yearning and promise of true devotion. 🫶🏽 The next rola “Computer Love” is a prophetic 1985 electro-funk and R&B slow jam released from the album The New Zapp IV U. Now, how prophetic was this jam, que no? Anticipating digital romance decades early, the track envisions finding a soulmate through a computer screen, replacing astrology with modern technology. The rola has been sampled over 120 times, influencing artists like 2Pac (“Temptations”, “I Get Around”), Blackstreet, Ty Dolla $ign & Wiz Khalifa, and Jay-Z. Both rolas completely revolutionized the R&B landscape by using cold, futuristic technology to deliver some of the warmest, most vulnerable love songs in music history. Enjoy! #mandosvinilos #malditovicio #zapp #zappandroger #iwantobeyourman

On Funky Friday, I decided to share a few funky jams from Zapp & Roger, an American electro-funk band formed in 1977 in Dayton, Ohio, by the Troutman brothers: Roger, Larry, Lester, and Terry. They are best known for pioneering the electro-funk subgenre and for Roger Troutman’s signature, heavy use of the talk-box (a device that routes synthesizer signals through a tube into the musician’s mouth to create robotic, vocalized instrumental effects). Now the rolas, the first one definitely had to be “More Bounce To The Ounce” because not only was it the group’s debut single in 1980, it also reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and became the band’s signature commercial breakthrough. “More Bounce to the Ounce” is one of the most sampled tracks in music history and served as the sonic foundation for West Coast G-Funk hip-hop. The next rolas “Dance Floor” & “Doo Wa Ditty (Blow That Thing)” are the first two singles released from their 1982 critically acclaimed second studio album, Zapp II. “Dance Floor” spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart and “Doo Wa Ditty” peaked at No. 10. Not gonna lie, this 2 disc “greatest hits” compilation is amazing. Every song is a banger and I can definitely share a few more reels, featuring all the rolas in this set. Stay tuned 😉 Enjoy! #mandosvinilos #malditovicio #zapp #zappandroger #morebouncetotheounce

I wonder if @thezappband & Roger Troutman ever thought this futuristic idea of online dating would actually become a real thing… and be SUPER normalized 😭 Even though I personally wish it wasn’t lol. We’ve lost so much human connection from being chronically online. But hey… at least we have AI, right? 😂 Here’s a quick lil clip I made for Zapp & Roger’s “Computer Love.” 🤖❤️ I actually wanted to make this video FIRST, but my dad vetoed it and told me to do “More Bounce to the Ounce” instead 😂 If you haven’t seen that one yet, just click on my page — it’s up now! Follow @videosoul3k for more old-school R&B, soul & funk content, AI music videos, and all things Black culture. 🖤🎶 #ZappAndRoger #RogerTroutman #funkmusic #OldSchoolRnB 80sMusic
