Nature Based 🌱Art 🪲Murals 🌈 Wallpaper 🍄

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

From observation to interpretation. For some artists, the natural world is the subject; for others, it becomes a starting point. Familiar elements—trees, flowers, water, light, and landscape—are simplified, rearranged, or translated into shape, pattern, and gesture, revealing the many ways nature can inform an artist’s visual language.

I was first introduced to this room eight years ago. We had been hired to design the kitchen, second floor bathrooms and laundry alongside @kdwhome . It was the first phase of a multi-year, historic renovation for this 1858 home. What a dream, right?
That day, even though the plan was to design the salon in a later phase, I began dreaming of what this room would look like.
Fast forward to 2022 when we had the opportunity to bring those dreams to reality. This room is still one of my favorites we’ve designed to date.
Our client had loved the idea of using a mural. I knew I wanted it to be an original painting, not paneled. Panels are amazing but for this room, in this house, with its history, an original work of art was key. We brought on @thicketdesign to bring life to these walls. Taking note of the flora found on the property, seeds pre-dating the home, and the fauna seen out the windows, the mural began to take shape.
This room was to be designed for reading, music, puzzles, games and entertaining. The new, more modern furnishings juxtapose the mantle and that stunning mirror, both of which are original to the home. Texture and patterns play well together and intentionally do not compete with the mural.
Designing a room with an architectural base this strong is an incredible opportunity and it was an honor to breath new life into this room.
Thank you @homeanddesigndc for recognizing this beautiful space. We are so grateful!

A former school building with long corridors needed more than repetition. At The Flora, we created a design narrative that evolves floor by floor

The first floor grounds residents in rich terracotta tones, moody color, botanical details, and organic forms.🌺

The second floor introduces lighter layers, classic motifs, and reflective elements that build on the story while maintaining continuity.🏵

The third floor opens into sky blues, soft yellows, and a brighter, more minimal palette that draws residents upward to the rooftop. 💠

Three floors. Three distinct experiences. One cohesive journey.
