To You, of whom there are many 🫶

I’ve been sitting on a version of this letter for a while. What a joy to get it out in the world.

If you are a student, I hope you have at least one favorite teacher—one who challenges you, brings you hope, makes you feel seen, or just knows, inherently, that it gets hard out there sometimes. If you are a teacher, I hope you have at least one favorite student who does the same.

What a treasure it is to pay attention, even on the days when the noticing threatens to rip you in two.

Total pleasure to see SO MUCH DANCE at Philly Fringe! thINKingDANCE is bringing a ton of published reviews the next few weeks, so stay tuned as performances keep happening. Vijay Palaparty and Nalini Prakash sat down with writer Zoe Farnsworth (@zoecompostabledance) of @thinkingdance to talk about the twenty year journey of Godavari: Who Am I?

They spoke about finding ground in classical Indian dance, about the river that gives the work its name and its many identities, and about why the piece refuses to sit still.

Godavari: Who Am I? comes to the Philadelphia Fringe Festival on Saturday, September 12 at 2pm at Performance Garage, 1515 Brandywine Street. Created and performed by Vijay, Nalini, and Ramya Kapadia.

On May 3rd, Rachel performed a special work-in-progress version of “Tomorrow, I’ll Be Ready” at @thinkingdance ‘s Spring Thing event in Philadelphia at the Asian Arts Initiative! Rachel is currently workshopping this new piece, which invites the audience to co-create the work in real time through experiments in audio description and improvisation 🔈

In addition to being Bashi Arts’ co-founder, Rachel also serves as a Staff Writer and on the Editorial Board of thINKingDANCE, a Philadelphia-based (and beyond!) consortium of dance artists and writers who work together to provide critical coverage for dance, to build audiences for dance, and to foster the art of dance writing ✍🏼
