Wow. Would you look at that. Here we are again. Hey, hello. How are you? I hope you’re well. First post since April, though I did hop on in June to share how much I liked the He-Man movie. It’s September now and you know, time flies whether you’re having fun or not, and I’ve definitely both had fun and not had fun for sure. I’m always striving for balance and while I’ve had some good periods of it, the lows that do happen seem to be getting lower. Oh well, I guess, right? Enough of that. I’ve got some news.

I remembered I make music and managed to focus on one idea long enough to get an album of music done. It’s my first album in over 7 years and it’s called Aqua Blue. It’s entirely keyboard-driven, synths, electric piano, slap bass, heavy drums, high BPM’s. Top Gun soundtrack meets 90’s/00’s video game music. It comes out on September 18th because if I don’t put a hard date on it, I’ll just sit on it forever. I’m excited for the album to come out, it feels fresh and unlike anything I’ve done, but like something that’s kind of been building up in the background and waiting to come together.

Other than that, I’m plugging along. I mostly work these days, go to the theater, watch tv, and read. I ran into my friend Kate at work the other day, it was really nice to see her, so that’s something. Still posting up on the website. Recent posts include a eulogy for Screaming Mad George (one of many deaths this year, holy smokes, RIP Dolly Parton and Tim Curry) and a post about how I finally got out from underneath a label and acquired full control of my Bandcamp page and all its capabilities. Recently watched the new season of Tires, some of the best comedy television I’ve seen in a long time. Also saw Tony in the theater, even removed from the life and legacy of Bourdain, it’s just a great small-scale story. Enjoyed it a lot.

That about does it for me. Take care of yourself. I’ll be traveling for a brief vacation, which I’m very much looking forward to, I’ll be releasing the new album the day my trip starts. See you again then.

🦢 🐦‍⬛ Friday drop! Within the world of Synthers & Beasts (coming May 15!) we also have the bifang, a blue/green one-legged crane with red accents. it’s said to be an omen of fire or indicative of coming fire disasters. Fun fact: its name is an onomatopoeia of the sound it makes!

The bifang is accompanied by a qingniao, which appears as a small three-legged blue/green bird, and appears often in Chinese poetry and literature. It’s said to be the messenger bird of the Queen Mother of the West, a goddess who happened to grow an orchard of celestial peaches 🍑 In Synthers & Beasts, qingniaos are still used for messages but the usage is decreasing as the world modernizes ☎️

The bifang is pulled from the Chinese classic Shanhaijing 📖 and the qingniao is from various stories of the Queen Mother of the West (aka Xiwangmu in China, Seowangmo in Korea, Seiobo in Japan, Tay Vuong Mao in Vietnam). If you enjoy retellings of mythological creatures, keep an eye out for Synthers & Beasts~

#indieauthor #chinesefolklore #cozyfantasy #bookart thank you again to @thirdbook for this gorgeoussssss rendition 🥹

shoutout shivvvvvvv man

shiv is someone that i’ve been tapped in for so long and while he doesn’t necessarily exactly meet the criteria for rap which I post about in terms of upcoming artists, his music is still incredible and I know a lot of you guys will appreciate this

he kind of reminds me of a mix of dominic fike and a lot of other artists within the indie r&b space. his background is more within r&b but it’s been beautiful for me to witness him delve more into indie and other spheres within his music

this song is titled ‘her n ice cream’ and comes after he visited korea and japan. the way shiv bobs and weaves through melodies kind of reminds me of frank ocean too, and it’s the one skill for me that sets apart singers coming up in the scene now in 2025 if you ask me

some have it, others follow the formula more, but it’s being able to hear choruses where there’s slight vocal distinctions or inflections or differences that makes all the world of difference

it’s such a catchy song man. shoutout to everyone who was involved in the making of this too <3

if you’re a fan of kpop/indie/rnb you’ll love this man. go show shiv some love and lmk what y’all think in the comments below :) love y’all family
