🌟 Thank You! 🌟
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Third Place for organizing an incredible event honoring BIPOC leaders in our community. Their continuous efforts in highlighting and bringing us together deserve applause! We are especially grateful to Adilah Muhammad, who has been an exceptional advocate for the BIPOC and immigrant community here in Maine. Thank you for ensuring that they have the resources they need and deserve. Your unwavering support and belief in us at Generational Noor have been invaluable.

We are humbled and honored to receive the Community Wayfinder for Excellence in Creative Advocacy award for our Executive Director and Founder, Amran Osman. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication that our team puts in each day. Speaking of which, a huge shoutout to the amazing Generational Noor team! Your unwavering commitment and volunteerism have been instrumental in making our mission a reality.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support from our community members, particularly our youth. Your enthusiasm and belief in our work have propelled us forward. Together, we have achieved so much in just one year, thanks to the outpouring of support because of the pressing need for substance use disorder and mental health resources in our communities.

But this is just the beginning. We firmly believe that by working together, we can instill change and make a difference. Our ongoing efforts to be the change we want to see in our communities are fueled by the unity and collaboration we share. Let's keep striving for a brighter future together!

What a fabulous event! And what a meaningful way to kick off and celebrate #blackhistorymonth. The Maine Law Black Law Student Association (BLSA) partnered with @thirdplacemaine to host a BIPOC Networking Symposium this evening. Members of Third Place and Maine’s BIPOC professional community joined students from BLSA and Maine Law to discuss the importance of community, make connections, and eat good food. Thank you to everyone who attended and to the event sponsors for their generous support - Pierce Atwood LLP, Berman & Simmons Trial Attorneys, @verrill_law, @hhrcmaine, Drummond Woodsum Attorneys at Law, @helixbarreview, @accesslexinstitute, and the Maine Technology Institute.

"We know that communities of color experience food insecurity at disproportionate rates. As we work to improve food access for all, we need to invest in local organizations whose work helps to remove barriers that lead to long-term or multi-generational food insecurity," said Ami McReynolds, chief equity officer of Feeding America.

Presente! Maine and Ummah Farm Food Hub are two Community Redistribution Fund partners of the Food Bank recently granted the Food Security Equity Impact Fund by Feeding America. The fund supports communities of color and rural communities disproportionately impacted by food insecurity.

Last week we celebrated their work by sharing meals, hearing stories of past and present hopes and dreams, and coming together in unison of community and strength.

As we continue to deepen our commitment to ensuring all Mainers have access to the nutritious and culturally specific foods needed to thrive, we are committed to uplifting the work being led by Black, Brown, and Indigenous community members. The Food Bank will continue to acknowledge the beauty and power of these communities. #FeedingMaine

Today we highlight Seacoast African American Cultural Center, Afrofuturism and Green Acres B’Hai Center. Juneteenth Walk
June 19 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Celebrate Juneteenth side-by-side with others of goodwill by walking from Kittery, Maine to the African Burying Ground in Portsmouth, New Hampshire! Meet at the John Paul Jones Memorial Park on the Kittery side of the Route 1 Memorial Bridge. Walkers will depart at 11:00 am and walk the 0.8 miles to the Burying Ground, located at 386 State St, Portsmouth, NH. Stay to hear New Orleans style jazz band Midnight BBQ and a church-style ceremony with Reverend Jeffery McIlwain of North Star AME Zion Church around 12:00 pm. This event is co-hosted by The Seacoast African-American Cultural Center, Green Acre Baha’i Center of Learning, and Black Lives Matter Seacoast, in cooperation with Theater for the People and the Seacoast NAACP.
Parking for those participating in the walk is available at Kittery Walk-in Care, 35 Walker St, as well as more wheelchair accessible parking spots across Hunter Ave, by the Warren’s Lobster sign. If you’d rather join in after the parade at the African Burying Ground, there are designated accessible parking spaces in the Parrot Lot on Pleasant St, which is 0.3 miles from the African Burying Ground. Parking in all lots is free.
Afterwards, grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant, and make your way back to the Burying Ground at 2:00 pm for Uproar — a free, high-energy performance that introduces audiences to the unique lineages of African-American step dance and demonstrates how enslaved people on American soil used stepping as a vehicle for communication, self-expression, and joy. This performance features an intergenerational step team, poets, and musicians.
