Your Host and Ours… Temidayo Amay

Hear material from Doll Girl, about Greer Lankton (1958-1996), an artist and trans woman, whose memory lives on in the work of Lisa Stephen Friday and Joseph W. Ritsch.

Lou Sullivan (1951-1991), a pioneer for trans men, honored in the work of Melliot, the writing team.

The Perceived by Blanca Del Loco is loosely inspired by Kindred by Octavia Butler. She is honoring the memory and legacy of Black trans people throughout history.

Adam J. Rineer’s THIRD SEX: 1930s transvestite lieder, a found text punk cabaret based on Das 3. Geschlecht. (Berlin, 1930-1932)

Our Curator and Organizer is Sandy Sahar Gooen, who founded TEMPO.

Trans Day of Remembrance began to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a Black Trans Woman killed in Massachusetts in 1998, and has continued to honor the memories of trans people who came before us, and those whom we have lost to violence and systemic failures. We say her name alongside those who we are honoring with music, those whose names will be read this year, those known to us and not.

This event is not just for trans people or musicians, it is for those who wish to support and work with us. We will hold space to memorialize, followed by time to connect and build work for a better future.

Speaking of support!

In order to keep programming going, we welcome donations of any type or size. @theetempo on Venmo or inquire about other ways to support us!

Posting this song from @thirdsex1930 from our show on Tuesday, despite my little flubs, because I think it’s so relevant right now. The fact that the original text that @adamjrineer adapted was from 1930 is both a reminder that trans people have always existed — we are not a TikTok trend, and that we are in another cycle of fighting this same fight.

I’ve sang this song “The Desperate Struggle” a bunch of times, but embodying this story of a trans man struggling with his government identification almost 100 years ago, when we’re still here dealing with it in 2026 was a little surreal (and a little challenging, if I’m being totally honest.

The lyric “It’s so easy to kill a person from the desk of bureaucracy” has really been sticking out to me, especially since the original author points out that he was TRYING to just be a regular member of society. We are human, we are your neighbors, your friends, your peers, your lovers. And while it’s a challenging time, this evening reminded me that what we have now that we didn’t always have access to in the past is community. So while I feel afraid for the future, I feel grateful for all the wonderful people in my life who I know will have each other’s backs.

Spielzeiten: 13.+14.06.2026, jeweils 19.30 Uhr,

Freie Bühne Wien, Wiedner Hauptstraße 60b, 1040 Wien

Tickets in Kürze über oeticket.com
