JP Idama is a creative thinker whose bold approach to marketing has produced impactful campaigns, inspired cultural trends and earned him several industry accolades.

He is the co-founder of This&That Creative Agency, known as the Chameleons of Advertising for blending marketing with culture, and the founder of CreativeBloc Carnival, an annual Gen Z carnival celebrating creativity. Outside work, he writes short films and rehearses one of his three dance routines.

He will be judging the RADIO LAIF category.

When the reality of a nation changes, the language of its communication industry must evolve with it.

On Children’s Day 2026, the Nigerian marketing and advertising landscape experienced a profound structural shift. While corporate digital feeds remained filled with generic balloon vectors and pre-scheduled celebration messages, three visionary creative agencies, Rage Media, Dentsu Creative, and This&That Creative Agency—refused to look away from the truth.

In a powerful demonstration of communication used for social advocacy, these agencies dropped standard promotional messaging to highlight the security challenges facing schoolchildren across Oyo, Kogi, and Kebbi states:

Data-As-An-Accusation (Rage Media): Re-engineered the definition of security data by rendering regional abduction figures (39 in Oyo, 23 in Kogi, 25 in Kebbi) as physical scars across a child's silhouette, challenging the industry with a blunt message: "If you know what these numbers mean, we wish you a Not-So-Happy Children's Day."

The Editorial Striking (Dentsu Creative): Executed a powerful design choice across their Finding Freedom series, physically striking through the word "Happy" with a red ink line to expose the hollow nature of traditional corporate messaging during a crisis.

The Architecture of Dread (This&That): Arranged the familiar, innocent objects of a child’s daily routine—lunchboxes, crayons, and schoolbooks, beneath an immense, armed shadow on the classroom wall, capturing the constant anxiety carried by modern parents.

This collective stance issues a clear challenge to major brands, corporate directors, and communication strategists across West Africa. We cannot build campaigns around understanding the consumer, celebrating family values, and owning cultural spaces, while completely ignoring the real crises affecting Nigerian homes.

The era of neutral, uninspired holiday templates is officially over. True creative leadership means using the power of design, copy, and visual storytelling to stand for something real.
