10 years ago today, on August 12th 2016, we released “The Love That Remains”. In many ways, it was the hardest of all of our albums to make, but more importantly, it was a beautiful and deeply meaningful journey. Not only in the music-making, but in the spirit and magic I got to share with everyone involved.

When Deidre left the band after Our Nature, I honestly wasn’t sure what to do next. I feigned confidence, but so much of our music was connected to our friendship and collaboration. After a few months though I realized I had to just… see what happens. And I’m so glad I did. From that point, it was an incredible period of new collaborations that I still think about today…“Lover’s Wake” with Leah Hayes - “Devotion” and “Crowded Streets” with Alex, Ben, and Andrew - “Heaven” with Winslow Bright, “Other Worlds” with David Fleming, and especially “Giants”, “Savages” and “Mountains” with Lauren, who quickly became my main writing partner and our newest band member <3 My dear friend Zach Berkman also came in to help me finish a number of songs and act as a sounding board when I couldn’t crack the code. And an extra special thanks to Claudius Mittendorfer who sonically brought this record to a place I couldn’t have on my own. This wonderful assortment of people all helped make this album what it is. I also want to thank all of them for putting up with what was probably an especially difficult, and emotional Paul at times.

As the songs came together, I remember scribbling a short phrase into a new little notebook. We had just gotten back from Brazil and I had learned the phrase ‘saudades’, which means a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone. Often, it’s simplified to another translation - ‘The Love That Remains’. Given where ‘Our Nature’ left off, and the big changes that were taking place in my life, it couldn’t have been a more fitting and meaningful continuation for the Savoir Adore story. I hope you’ll take a moment to jump back and listen to this beautiful record that means so much to all of us.

Love,
Paul
