For Eliza, I wanted the costumes to feel unmistakably human.

In a world on the brink of artificial intelligence, it felt important to remember that there is still something extraordinary about the human hand and what we can create.

In a story about technology and what it means to be human, I wanted the costumes themselves to carry that sense of humanity.

I wanted to celebrate and champion the labour, care and experience of the many talented artisans I have the privilege of working with @melbtheatreco
The hands that stitch, knot, cut, fit, repair and bring these costumes, and these characters, to life.

The foundation
It was an absolute privilege to design a custom back piece for the talented Lila McGuire! 🎬
Working alongside AACTA-nominated hair and makeup designer John Logue was an incredible collaborative experience. In our initial creative meeting, we focused heavily on the technical details, discussing the perfect lace density and application process.
To ensure the piece withstood the fast-paced pressures of being on set, we crafted the nape section with a double-layered, coated lace. This gave John and @deblester123 the extra durability and structural integrity needed for secure pinning. An hd edging was incorporated into the design to give flexibility on the off chance after it was fitted baby hairs were going to be needed.Following John’s specific request, we constructed the main base using traditional theatre back lace for optimal stiffness, which made the final application seamless.

The most expensive thing you can own in this industry is not a camera but your own attention.

Finding this frame with @lorifavero was a study in stillness. Not a pose - just the weight of a shoulder and the way it holds itself in the hair.

I’m currently prepping an authored magazine submission project for May 9th.
