Superpower Investigative Research: Last weekend, 900 journalists met in Hamburg. We talked about the craft of investigative research and celebrated incredible investigations.

I met many amazing people and spoke on three panels myself: On digital hate against women, on the influence of creators on journalism and on the challenges of covering gaming.

Photo 7: One of my wonderful lawyers from the KM8 law firm was also at the conference.

Thanks for a lot of great photos @nickjaussi , last one with @danieldrepper is my favorite one😉

Thank you, @netzwerkrecherche , for organizing this conference. See you next year!

Since @juloeffler’s investigation for *Der Spiegel* into the allegations against Christian Ulmen, digital misogyny has been widely discussed in Germany. But the problem isn’t limited to isolated high-profile cases: from coordinated campaigns to everyday threats, these attacks try to push women out of the public eye. As you all know, after my reporting on More Nutrition, I was attacked by its co-founder, Christian Wolf. Since then, I have been subjected to digital violence from people on the internet almost daily. I know how intense hate against women can be.

Another form of digital violence I’ve experienced: I was sent 500,000 fake followers, apparently to harm me. Not only was there an attempt to hack my public Instagram account, but also my small, private Instagram account. This almost gave the attackers access to my private contacts, favorite places, and other details from my personal life. Many hateful comments, intended to paint a certain picture of me, were posted under my videos or under videos reporting on me, apparently by fake bot accounts. In my opinion, these threats are meant to silence me. I don’t know who coordinated, commissioned, and paid for these attacks.

How can journalists conduct meaningful research on these topics? What can newsrooms do better to maintain appropriate critical standards? How can affected journalists themselves be better protected? I’ll be speaking about this on Saturday at the German conference for investigative journalism in Hamburg, organized by @netzwerkrecherche .
