Penang Day 2

Started the day with a bowl of curry mee, explored a little art space, stopped by for some food, and ended the night with a little birthday celebration. 🎂🍷

From Hokkien Mee to Char Koay Teow, Penang has always known how to feed you well. Its cocktail culture, however, has had to work a little harder for attention. That started to change over the past four years, thanks to Penang Cocktail Week, which has been putting the island’s bars firmly on the drinking map.

Founded by Koh Yung Shen, the six-day festival returned for its fourth edition, bringing together bartenders from Penang, KL, across Southeast Asia, Shanghai, Taiwan, and even Canada.

The opening party, themed ‘Welcome Home’, and bar crawl offered a lively introduction to Penang’s ever-growing drinking community, connecting local bartenders with a wider international crowd. And judging by the energy, this is one scene that’s only getting started.

Welcome Home, indeed.

For its fourth edition, @penangcocktailweek puts the spotlight firmly on the local scene, celebrating the bartenders, bars, food and community that make Penang what it is. But home doesn’t mean keeping things close to the island. Guest shifts bring in bars from the Klang Valley alongside international names, turning the week into a meeting point for familiar faces and new friends.

From collaborations and cocktail-fuelled bar nights to food, masterclasses, talks on operating a bar and women in the bar scene, this year’s “Welcome Home” theme is really about coming together, sharing the love and putting Penang’s cocktail scene in the spotlight, both locally and internationally.

It’s a public holiday week to celebrate Malaysia Day, and if there’s one thing Malaysians know how to do right, it’s certainly a patriotic party to the fullest.

Penang Cocktail Week is also very excitingly among us, so find fun collaborations and takeovers across the island.

*Correction: Kooky Cream’s cakes are paired with Paolo Paolo’s gelato.
