Meet The Artist: @helenjohceramics for One Triton Square, commissioned by @BritishLandplc & Royal London Asset Management

Helen has always been drawn to materials and experimentation, developing a resourceful, hands-on approach from an early age. Her path into ceramics was instinctive, beginning with evening pottery classes alongside studies in maths and science, before discovering plaster and mould-making - a process that became central to her practice.

Trained in ceramics in the 1990s, she developed a strong foundation in model and mould making, balancing precision with play. After years of making and teaching, further study at the @royalcollegeofart allowed her to re-examine her practice, bringing traditional craft and contemporary thinking into dialogue.

Exploration of the Porcelain Canvas, 2025

The process of material play - liquid to solid - is the essence of Helen’s practice. A trained model and mould maker with honed skills and experience, she pushes the expectations of porcelain in her studio work. Tone, shadows, texture, movement and layers build an expressive quality in her delicate and refined aesthetic. The consideration of light and the effects as a visceral sensation with porcelain, connecting the elements - earth, water, air, fire.

Meet The Artist: @richardmcvetis for One Triton Square, commissioned by @BritishLandplc & Royal London Asset Management

Richard McVetis’ work explores the language of time, geology, and cosmology through textile-based art, particularly hand embroidery, which he describes as "rendering with stitch." His meticulous creations, ranging from small sculptures to large installations, examine repetition and its expressions of sameness and difference. These works map space and visually represent the passage of time, challenging conventional embroidery definitions. A graduate of @mcrschart and the @royalcollegeofart, McVetis has been shortlisted for numerous prestigious awards, including the @LoeweFoundation Craft Prize.

Grains, 2020-2023

Created over four years, 'Grains' forms an imagined landscape that bridges the celestial and the cellular. Rooted in the physical act of making, the work is a meditation on time, rhythm and repetition.

Each stitch records the movement of the hand, embracing slowness as a way of finding order, focus and calm. Through this ritual process, subtle variations emerge - only fully revealed on close inspection. From a distance, the marks resolve into quiet fields of tone, mapping time through patience, precision and human touch.

Meet The Artist: @inthegrainn for One Triton Square, commissioned by @BritishLandplc & Royal London Asset Management

Darren Appiagyei is a UK-based wood artist, curator and public speaker. Largely self-taught in woodturning while studying at @camberwellual, he is a recipient of the Cockpit Arts / Worshipful Company of Turners Award (2017) and a @craftscouncil Hothouse alumnus (2019).

His practice celebrates the natural character of wood, embracing knots, cracks, bark and grain, and is influenced by the raw textures of Ghanaian wood carving. Darren primarily works with locally sourced timber from naturally fallen trees in Shooter’s Hill, London.

Growth Vessel 01-05, 2025

Inspired by the loss of his mother to fibroids in 2020, Darren Appiagyei’s Growth is a series of five vessels, each marking a year since her passing. Fibroids are a common but often overlooked condition, disproportionately affecting women of African and Caribbean heritage.

The works explore organic growth, texture and scale, with forms increasing in size to reflect the irregular nature of fibroids. Hand-worked techniques and dot-by-dot burning reveal layered surfaces that echo cellular structures and transformation.

Meet The Artist: @AnickaYi_Studio for One Triton Square, commissioned by @BritishLandplc & Royal London Asset Management

Informed by scientific research, biology, and perfumers, Anicka Yi has produced a unique body of work over the past decade at the intersection of politics and macrobiotics. Her practice questions the increasingly hazy taxonomic distinctions between what is human, animal, plant and machine, and is the result of an alchemical process of experimentation that explores often incompatible materials. She collaborates with researchers to create media that is often inherently political, and delves into the cultural conditioning of sense and perception in a way she describes as a “biopolitics of the senses.”

Yi’s work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions at institutions around the world, including the @leeummuseumofart; Seoul; @pirelli_hangarbicocca, Milan; @Tate Modern, London; the Solomon R. @guggenheim; and the @mitlistarts Cambridge, Massachusetts; among many others.

The Ediacaran Swimmers, 2025

The Ediacaran Swimmers is artist Anicka Yi’s first permanent commission in the UK, expanding her ongoing series of Winogradsky-inspired works first shown at the Venice Biennale in 2019. This monumental lightbox merges living microbial imagery from Yi’s New York studio with a machine-learning model trained on earlier works, creating a composition that blurs the boundaries between organic and synthetic systems.

Drawing on microbiologist Sergei Winogradsky’s early 20th-century soil ecosystems, Yi reimagines these forms as speculative hybrids where biological and technological worlds evolve together. Iron-rich ambers and steely greys nod to London’s industrial sediment, while ochres hint at microbial metabolic activity. Acrylic overlays echo both circuit boards and unicellular structures, and resin-filled glass vessels suggest incubators of emerging life.

Meet The Artist: @Majeda_Clarke for One Triton Square, commissioned by @BritishLandplc & Royal London Asset Management

Majeda Clarke is an award-winning artist specialising in weaving, blending strong colours inspired by her cultural heritage with a modern aesthetic. She is fascinated by the imperfections in handwoven fabrics and the faded histories they carry. Majeda collaborates with local communities, including @unesco Jamdani weavers in Dhaka, to renew ancient techniques, while also exploring lost weaving traditions through mill-woven pieces. A Clothworkers' Awardee, she has won several prestigious awards and exhibited at leading galleries. She is a trustee at @craftscouncil and member of @design_nationuk, and CAA.

Four works from series 'Poems are Woven into Thought', 2025

The titles of these hand-woven silk artworks are lines from the book of poetry Stray Birds by Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore was a Bengali polymath - poet, playwright, philosopher – who was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. His bust in Gordon Square is a short walk from Triton Square; one of many literary heroes to once live in the area inspiring one to contemplate the power of nature. Each artwork is a visual narrative of a verse from Tagore’s anthology, reflecting upon nature’s beauty, the journey towards knowledge and the distillation of thought.

The copper motifs are inspired by networks of knowledge where one hub connects to another to build on concepts, like the long strands that cross and extend. The hand-dyed thread colours are taken from the landscape around Triton Square and the broader natural world of sunset skies, trees and seasons.
