The first edition, ‘Collector’s Series: Artists & Cities’, features sixty artists and collectives from six cities in Africa and five women leaders in the African art world. It brings together a diverse and uncommon range of artistic practices from the continent, expanding what is presented and commonly promoted as African art today.

Every time we gather, we raise the bar… (see what I did there?)

So honored to celebrate another successful edition of the #NewBlackRenaissance presented by @martellusa.

Inspired by the legacy of Harlem Renaissance-era salons, this series brings together artists, creatives, and more for intimate conversations around contemporary Black art and culture. Our latest event featured the iconic Radcliffe Bailey (@radcliffebaileyjr) and a host of Atlanta’s dynamic creative class! Toss in delectables by @EarthcandyArts… music by @SalahAnanse… and exquisite cocktails courtesy of #MartellBlueSwift.

These are the moments that become movements. This is the #NewBlackRenaissance!

I am Essé (Essenam) Dabla-Attikpo. I am from Togo and Benin and based in Accra, Ghana since 2013. I am an independent Curator, Art Consultant and Cultural Producer. I am an expert in West African Contemporary Art and production of cultural events.

I wanted to work around media, arts and communication, ideally on the African continent. This interest came from being surrounded by creatives from a young age – designer Aunty, writer Dad, rapper/Dj/visual artist big brother. My studies gave me the right tools to work with artists in an Intercultural environment.

Since 2018, I am developing This No Be Art - art consultancy, curating exhibitions, creating experiences around contemporary art and fostering an art collecting culture among Africans and Afro-descendants, without forgetting my love for hip hop. I currently work at the intersection between hip hop and contemporary art, researching on representations of Blackness in hip hop culture by Black visual artists.
