INNERMOST SOURCE V1 - Running up six of the steepest hills in the U.S. over 12 miles. Huge thanks to @tholtbrower for organizing the inaugural LA sufferfest and @jordan_clark_haggard for the awesome photos.

It’s been a wild few days in LA. With so many friends in town, there’s never enough time to ride and explore this massive city. I’ve known some of these folks for so long that it feels like a lifetime. The experiences I’ve gained through bicycles and art are truly priceless, and I’m humbled and honored to have you all as part of my journey on this mad planet. Till the wheels fall off.

Why am I doing this?

The burning lungs. Screaming quads. Rapidly quickening breathe. Relentless vert. Aerobic purgatory.

Then, the relief.

High fives. Dog barks. Curses and gallows humor. Munching on salt tabs and gummy candies. Rinse and repeat.

12 miles and 6 of the steepest streets you can possibly step foot on in North America, and here we are charging up to the top. Stuck somewhere between goofing around and hellbent. Psychotic behavior.

Or is it?

Some may argue that the challenge exists; therefore, it must be done. Or perhaps try your luck and hope for the best.

I spent a perfectly good Saturday morning running with (more like chasing after) some of the big dawgs at the inaugural INNERMOST SOURCE put on by @tholtbrower and friends. Running with the homies at @eaglerockrunclub made it even better and I’m grateful for having this shared experience.

Running is a frustratingly simple formula. What you put in, you get out of it. You can’t hide from it. There’s no cheating it. I am far removed from running at my absolute best, but tapping back into that competitive side again just clicked. I can’t wait to spend some more time in the pain cave and see where exploring my limits takes me. 10/10 would do it again.

Finding the innermost self by climbing up the 6 hardest hills in Silverlake with some of the best buds around.

Congrats and “thanks” to @tholtbrower on throwing the most diabolical inaugural race in town. I did not win.

m is for multitudes // mentally hill

thank you @jordan_clark_haggard for capturing this insane sequence during @tholtbrower’s race.
*between slides 6 and 7 i fell across the finish line in what looked like an intentional lean/dive… it was not. my legs completely gave out, and i ate shit as the incline shifted to flat/decline.

i’d write about the mentals of this and how good it feels to be back after a year+ of injury, but you’re on ig for da pics not da words 🐶😈😘

The Innermost Source -
A journey to your inner limit. Inspired by early 00’s bicycle race FeelMyLegsImARacer (@mattruscigno / swarm brainchild).

This morning we traveled by foot as a group to run six of the steepest streets in the continental U.S.

Thanks to Max (@tholtbrower) for hosting this incredible race along with the crew taking photos and keeping track of our points. Until next year…

🥇Malibu Canyons 50M Recap: I am beginning to understand who I am as a runner. This time around I felt more seasoned and was able to build up to the race with some serious volume and vert. I tailored my training around my strengths and had a lot more fun hitting the trails with my friends. With less to prove to myself I let go of the strict planning and let the love of the sport carry me. Every run doesn’t have to be perfect and it’s ok to duck out on workouts if it doesn’t feel right. Beyound the running, being an ultra athlete is a team sport. Without @alexxaabell I would have crashed and burned early in my training. And without @eaglerockrunclub @unsnctnd and all the support this community has shown me I wouldn’t be here today writing an obnoxiously long race report (see comments). I love you all! Until next time 🦅🏴‍☠️
