Was studying Audio Recording when this album dropped. Hearing it back then was synchronicity I can't quite articulate, other than to say it was one of the first times I felt I finally understood how songs worked. It was easier for me to distinguish layers in my mind and visualize stems in colors and textures than with anything prior to it. Endtroducing (and Mo Wax in general) were my north star in terms of beatmaking, but TS did something new to incorporate my need for guitars to play a lead role with beats. The timing of that album helped reinforce my education and guide my eventual music making ethos. Paired with my studies in sound engineering and tackling DAWs with midi and editing, it all culminated into the perfect recipe to be a bedroom producer. So when I got my solo project up and running, while everything about me screamed Deftones, the more acurate comparison would've actually been TS. My first write up in the local paper coined me Montreal's Trip-Hop troubadour; and armed with Chino's Yamaha Pacifica, he and Todd's Vox AC 30 amp, Rick's bass and MicroKorg, and a Roland MC 303 groovebox to try to emulate Crook's SP 12 beats...I very much welcomed and embraced the trip-hop title because it venn diagramed me with them. I basically was trying to be TS but solo. And Bad Weather was a portemanteau of Bad Brains & Weather Report.

Their show in Toronto at Opera House on July 4 '05 was my first time meeting @chinowmoreno @Toddwilkinson and @Crookone - initially shouting a "whaddup fools" from across the street of the venue pre-show interrupting their interview with Much Music (my sincerest apologies, again), and after-show by the tour bus. Played that Opera House six years later and sounchecked with my questionable-at-best cover of Your Skull is Red. They definitely wore it best.

If you haven't heard the Woodstock Sessions live version of Princeton Review, you need to stop whatever nonsense you're doing and peep game. Rob Crow's original vocal is forever dope but Chino's live vocals are hands down the most beautiful and charming vocal performance on earth.

The record so nice, I own it twice. Time to develop a beat juggle routine with Tomb of Liegia?

i didn’t realise at first the road ahead might could get rough, so i learnt how to kick my legs crazyfast, enough to float:
sometimes even the air knocks me around, though.
i def ran into a few mechanical problems, but slid beneath them somehow, left alone in a place that’s not really a “place” at all.
go figure, i guess.

This isn’t just cover art. It’s a portal. A visual Mantra, a reflection of what it means to stand at the center of collapse and still carry your light. Created by our very own @racqueljones. “Black Ark” featuring @lee_scratch_perry out now.
