πŸš‰πŸš‰ in less than two weeks, we present Edward Yang’s poetic and beautifully hopeless city tale, TAIPEI STORY (1985). β€œWe’ve all seen YI YI, and by now A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY has garnered a big enough audience. So now, join us at EP and bask in the poetry of every frame, every breath and unspoken moment, in the space and void between people, the buildings, the streets, in this burgeoning cosmopolitan city Taiwanese life. Past, Present, Future collides in a restlessness…we’ve for certain felt and know all too well.” - @easternyoo πŸ™οΈ tues, september 29th 6:00 pm πŸŒƒπŸŒƒ @paradiseonbloor 🎟️🎟️ link in bio βœ‚οΈ trailer by @clobrett

The North American Premiere of Gakuryu Ishii’s SELF-REVOLUTIONARY CINEMATIC STRUGGLE, presented by Truth and Dare & Eastern Promises!!! Aug. 30th at 2PM Paradise Theatre Tix in bio Pre-recorded Q&A with director Gakuryu Ishii!! β€”β€” After the inexplicable disappearance of their professor (the legendary Japanese director Gakuryu Ishii), a class of students and assistant professors at the Kobe Institute of Technology investigate Ishii’s whereabouts via his β€œSelf-Revolutionary Struggle Training”. Complete with musical interludes, cinematic recreations, modality breaks and metatextual glimpses into the film’s own production, this didactic DIY-epic captures the breadth of cinematic history and theory and filters it through the youth. Though pointedly not an official curriculum, the film itself is an exhaustive education – albeit one poisoned by systemic self-doubt – that we encourage you to enroll in! Intended to *only ever* be screened in theaters and never become available online, Self-Revolutionary Cinematic Struggle is designed with very particular technical qualifications, including 4K resolution and glorious 5.1 surround sound. You will not want to miss the North American premiere of this definitive work from the director of cult favorites like August in the Water & Electric Dragon 80000V. β€”β€” Thank you to @brandonslimbs for the incredible poster, and to @insomniacfest for co-presenting this screening!
