finally after what’s seemed like literal ages, lancey foux is back

lancey has had a crazy chaotic year so far. but even through label disputes he’s given us two banger singles in the lead up to his album in “rockstar rider” and “body”

his latest drop, “rockstar rider,” is one of my favorite tracks he’s ever dropped. straight out of the gate, lancey hits you with a wall of bass and synths and doesn’t let up on that energy through the entire song. what makes this even more impressive is that it’s a solo producer credit

his lyricism is on point as always with him flexing his riches in the track and music video of course. it’s just another side of lancey’s game that we can look forward to in his upcoming drop

“body” is the other single he dropped in the lead up to his “the time of our lives” album and this one is just as trippy. giving a lot of 80’s synth influence, this track sounds more like a dance track sometimes with how much energy and funk it has

some listeners referred to the production on this track as “otherworldly” or hypnotic. even after all of the chaos, lancey is still a pillar in the uk underground

in lancey’s track “eagle eye,” he finally confronts all of the discourse that had been going on between him and his label at the time. while using michael jackson samples talking about labels taking advantage of black artists, lancey gives some scathing critiques on how his relationship has been with his label

citing tour cancellations and refusing to release tracks altogether, lancey really lets it all out on this track in a, still somehow, extremely catchy track. his latest album comes out on august 28th and im happy he’s been able to finally be allowed to put out everything on his terms

i’m excited to see what lancey puts out in august. what do y’all think? did you like “body” or “rockstar rider” more? what about the music videos between the two? lmk below<3

DAY 4 BEHIND-THE-SCENES… PART 2!

When selecting photos to be shared from the shoot, the other days naturally whittled down to ten per day. However, I felt @colthawk_films captured lots of great moments on the final day, so I split the shortlist into two posts instead.

These photos were captured in the afternoon after popping into the takeaway across the street for lunch. Here, the team are capturing the final scene with AuroraLily and Brandon. To end off this collection of behind-the-scenes posts, here’s a quote from the director’s impromptu wrap speech:

“…and for all of [cast and crew] to read the script at some point and be inspired enough to be apart of it is always very humbling to me, and to have such talented people in front of and behind the camera who helped me bring this to life after three years means a lot. So thank you very much, I hope I work with all of you again at some point.”

DAY 4 BEHIND-THE-SCENES

The final day of shooting (and our second in @nq64arcadebars ) consisted of capturing AuroraLily and Brandon’s first and last scenes together, as well as a brief scene of Brandon collecting himself in the toilet. It was a great note to end this wonderful week on, capturing the flashiest shot in the film then moving onto a few others we picked up after dropping them in the morning… all ahead of schedule no less!

DAY 3 BEHIND-THE-SCENES

With the daydream and opening scenes under their belt, the team moved to their third and final location of the shoot, @nq64arcadebars ! This is where the bulk of the film takes place, as we watch AuroraLily and her superfan attempt to have a normal interaction. The venue gave these scenes a wonderfully neon and saturated look which enhances the personality of the film. These scenes were also time for the naturalistic side of the two leads to come through, with more observant camerawork supporting this goal.

Once again, many thanks to @colthawk_films for capturing a plethora of amazing moments from this shoot, including the pizza and gaming lunch break from this day!

DAY 2 BEHIND-THE-SCENES

After the breakneck pace of Day 1, the crew got to have a slower day shooting the two opening scenes which take place in AuroraLily and Brandon’s rooms, as well as a few pickups from the previous day. Since we wrapped the morning ahead of schedule, everyone sat outside and enjoyed the lovely weather before continuing on with the day.

Since Day 2 only required a skeleton crew, our photographer wasn’t on set to capture any of the action. So, enjoy a couple of pics nabbed by the director as we were getting ready to shoot!

DAY 1 BEHIND-THE-SCENES

For the first day of the shoot, we were situated in @hydeparkbookclub where we brought AuroraLily’s anxiety-ridden daydream to life. It was a mental and fast paced day, to say the least, where the team managed to get 18 setups done in just 6 hours! Here are a few moments from that day, brilliantly captured by our @colthawk_films ☺️

Many thanks to the team at Hyde Park Book Club who let us use their premises for the day, and to all the supporting artists who sat in the audience and got their faces painted by @sarahatkinsonmakeup !
