To analyze the present in order to predict the future: this serves as the foundational premise of Avery Singer’s artwork “Vanessa”. Her practice involves compiling wartime images spanning from 2001 onward, which are subsequently reprocessed through artificial intelligence into a singular piece.

Rather than merely depicting the present, the artist filters it to anticipate what lies ahead, operating much like a highly skilled poker player.

Wishing artist Avery Singer (@thoughtsondeck) a very happy birthday! 🎂 A leading artist of her generation, Singer (b.1987, New York) uses innovative tools to create iconic, complex paintings that interpret contemporary social realities and technologies, portraying worlds that emerge from digital renderings.

ICA Miami was proud to acquire Singer's painting "Side Quest" (2021) for the museum’s permanent collection and present "Avery Singer: Unity Bachelor” in 2023. The exhibition featured new work exploring identity on- and offline, alongside earlier paintings that examine form, memory, and falling.

Learn more about the artist’s work in “Avery Singer: Unity Bachelor,” available now at the ICA Miami Shop. 📖 🔗
