Bartender Travis Howse’s (@thowse) dad had a chihuahua named Lola who loved arugula more than anything despite having no teeth left to chew it. Watching her go after it anyway stuck with him, so when Trick Dog (@trickdogbar) put together its “In Good Spirits” menu, its first true collaborative effort after years of one person building every list, Howse built an arugula margarita in her honor. Tequila gets paired with black pepper-infused Cointreau and a house arugula syrup, finished with lime and a slice of watermelon radish. The drink has stuck around well past the menu’s run, showing up regularly at the bar’s pop-ups.

The final days of @trickdogbar current cocktail menu, Meet Me in the City, are quickly approaching. The bar will soon unveil a new menu, making July 4 the final day to experience this unique project. Serving as both a cocktail menu and photography book, Meet Me in the City highlights the work of twenty-one photographers who have documented San Francisco, each paired with a signature cocktail inspired by their images. 🗓️🍸 Save the date and join us on Sunday, June 28, beginning at 4:30 PM at Trick Dog! For our next guest, we have to go back a few years to a pre-COVID world on the flank of Times Square, in the heart of a pirate crew where a special team in a special place was assembled. We had a passionate conversation about our time together in an incredible Tiki bar, nerded out about Milk Punches, and discussed the purpose of Guest Shifts. He is one of the greatest frontman bartenders to ever do it. He is the former Head Bartender of the legendary Polynesian NYC and the current Bar Manager of the 2025 TOTC Bar of the Year Trick Dog. Some may know him as Hot Batch, but regardless of what we want to call him please welcome and tune in for the one and only, Travis Hawse!
