We were published in today’s @chicagotribune!

My fellow Chicago Council on Global Affairs Emerging Leaders and I wrote an op-ed about Illinois’ historic Senate Bill 1560 — the nation’s first law requiring universal mental health screenings for students. With implementation starting in 2027, Chicago Public Schools has a defining opportunity to lead the nation in student well-being, but only if it acts now.

Reminder: Special Needs Support Program Applications

The deadline to apply for New Trier Township’s Special Needs Support Program is approaching.

The program provides financial assistance to eligible residents with a certified diagnosis for necessary medical and therapeutic expenses not covered by insurance.

Applications are due Wednesday, September 30 at 11:59 PM.

Wow, can the @thresholdschi Junior Board throw a fun and successful fundraising event!

On Thursday evening, a few hundred people gathered for Bingo and bevvies and tasty tacos and raised over $43,000 for our community mental health and homeless outreach programs!

Take a walk through the Austin HOPE Center with our local teen experts, Ari and Christian! Explore the teen lounge, early childhood space, exam rooms and more, and watch out for a special cameo from our very own CEO Dr. Shanley 🏢🩺

What makes this particular tour so special is that Ari, Christian and their peers were involved in the planning meetings back when the HOPE Center was just an idea on paper.

Thank you to Ari and Christian, to Communities United, Boys and Girls Club Chicago, KIPP Academy and so many more young people for helping us turn this vision into reality. Without you, the center would be nowhere near what it is today.

Together with Stone Community Development Corporation, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, Wintrust, Thresholds, and the Austin community, we are so excited to start this first chapter and continue building partnerships to help make specialty pediatric healthcare more accessible on Chicago’s West Side 💙

Today I got to bring “Before the Crisis: Conversations That Build Safety, Trust, and Belonging” to the McHenry County Community Connections Summit.

I’ve spent a lot of time talking about what Trust & Grow could become. Building frameworks. Making slides. Changing slides. Changing them again 3 minutes before start time. 😂 Thinking about how all the pieces of my work actually fit together.

Trauma. Regulation. Trusted adults. Gun violence prevention. Connection. The conversations we have before someone reaches a crisis. And the idea underneath so much of what I believe:

Build the net before the fall.

I also got to bring Trust & Grow into the room beyond the presentation. The grounding table, the conversations, the resources, the framework, all of it felt like pieces of this thing I’ve been building starting to come together in a really tangible way.

That was pretty damn cool.

Grateful to the McHenry County Mental Health Board for inviting me, to everyone who came to the session, stopped by the table, asked questions, grabbed a grounding tool, or shared a piece of their story with me.

There is still a LOT I want to build. Trust & Grow is still growing right alongside me.

But today, I’m going to let myself be proud of what already exists.

When trust takes root, growth becomes possible. 🌱

@designbridge is excited to share that Thresholds Center for Mental Wellbeing – South has been named a Finalist in the @aiachicago’s 2026 Lerch Bates People’s Choice Awards, presented in partnership with the @chiarchitecture

Located on Chicago’s South Side, the project expands an existing behavioral health facility with a new three-story addition designed to support integrated mental and behavioral health services, along with administrative and support spaces. A sloping entry courtyard creates a welcoming transition from 47th Street, while light-filled interiors, improved accessibility, and expanded program spaces strengthen the center as a place of dignity, hope, healing, and support.

The People’s Choice Awards invite the public to celebrate projects that contribute not only to Chicago’s built environment, but also to the communities and people they serve.
