Karlie Flood from @hudsonvalleyone and Rewind Kingston just wrote the most amazing article on thrifting for a cause in the Hudson Valley 📰🔥 Here are a few quotes from it:

“Thrift 2 Fight features work by incarcerated artists and hosts clothing swaps, film screenings, and carpooling opportunities to support Release Aging People in Prison. It answers community calls for emergency items needed both in our community and in Gaza. […]

Unique features include its abolitionist lending library, a Mitzvah wall (meaning “good deed” in Hebrew) filled with customizable, anonymous gifts. Flash deals, and a room full of items priced at eight dollars and under. […]

Thrift 2 Fight partners with other organizations on workshops on community organizing, fundraising, and sustainable fashion – changing the world one piece of clothing at a time.”

We are honored to be in this article alongside other great shops like @rewindkingston, @freetothrift , and @payitforward7856 (and also incredibly impressed by the succinct yet very accurate description of Thrift 2 Fight, which is a thing we’ve been working on for years). Thank you for covering Thrift 2 Fight and promoting small, sustainable - and yet affordable - businesses in our area.

Give it a read at the link in our bio, and stay on the lookout for fresh paper copies distributed locally! 🌱💞

Guess what?? Thrift 2 Fight was featured in Main Street Magazine @mainstreetmag for their Earth Month issue! 🎉🔥

Authored by Abby Audenino @abaudenino , the three-page article draws from the interview we gave in March centered around topics of sustainability, abundance, and balancing the thrifting with the fighting 📝💓🪧 Also mentioned in the interview: @millionsofbutterflies , @rappcampaign , @ulsterimmigrantdefense , @transclosethv , and @sae_ramapo @ramapoforchildren

Local papers and magazines are such a wonderful community resource, helping us all feel more connected. We are happy to have had this conversation – and especially delighted about the cheerful photos of our customers and community members that made it into print!

Copies of the magazine are distributed all over the Hudson Valley, and you can read it online too! Link in bio 🔗📰

📸 The title photograph is from our pop-up at the Queer Picnic in 2023, organized by Chosen Family & Queer Conspiracy at Opis 40 🧺🏳️‍🌈 Looking forward to this year’s picnic in June!

We had a great time at the @ponckhockiemarket in Kingston this Saturday along with @thriveon.network, @yadis_empanadas and many others!! 🤩🛒 Everything at the event was either sliding scale, or reduced pricing, and the groceries were sold on a tier system! 😱 It was awesome.

Attendees listened to Dr. Saint-Jean @ashandastjeanmd give a talk on women’s health, learned about community organizing in their area, thrifted, ate delicious empanadas, and even played with puppies. It was hosted by @communityactionca in their Rondout building 💗

Next market is on Sat. March 30th - and it will be an Irish-American Heritage Celebration with a LIVE cooking demo by Chef Michael Lindelauf @m.j.lindenlauf! Don’t miss it 🥰🍀

“Our opposition uses racism as a strategy to build their base by convincing white people that they, or we, have more in common with rich white people at the top than our neighrbors of color” - Erin Heaney, Executive Director of Showing Up For Racial Justice.

On Thursday, 20 of us gathered at Thrift 2 Fight for a potluck plus watch party in our makeshift “movie theater” for SURJ’s latest training! 📽️🔥

There were 158 squares in the zoom: each one representing a watch party, with a total of 500+ people tuning in from across the US to learn more about how they as white people can be an informed, strategic part of the fight for racial justice.

Community members in our Watch Party crew became SURJ members, signed up for phone banking, and volunteered for door knocking. They chose to step up not only fight for racial justice themselves, but also help guide their white friends, family, and neighbors towards opportunities where they can turn away from racist rhetoric and damaging actions, and start being part of the solution.

Just a reminder that when you participate in local events, there’s a good chance you might win a Thrift 2 Fight gift card! Tomorrow @ 9 am is one of those events — Tivoli’s famous ILOVEIT 5k 🔥🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻🏆 There is still time to register! Just follow the link in our bio or head straight to their website iloveit5krun.com ✨

Fun fact: unlike a lot of races, this one allows you to register as a non-binary participant. Last year, one of the T2F co-founders — Masha — got 1st prize in that category and came in 3rd overall (also pictured: their partner Hayden who won 2nd prize in men’s category and came in 4th overall)🏳️‍⚧️🎉

The people most active in our communities (organizing, showing up, caretaking, you know who you are!) are oftentimes also the ones needing resources & support. Sound familiar? If so, join us & our friends @Celebrate845 / @Thrift2Fight at Blackbird Infoshop & Cafe on Friday, March 31st, at 9:30-11:30am for a VERY gentle time (and coffee)! ☕️

Talk shop, check in, reflect, complain, take care. Use this as an opportunity to brainstorm ways to ensure that our collective fighting spirit is something that can be sustained!

Masks are required anytime you are not actively eating or drinking in Blackbird's designated seating area. There are extra masks available (but please BYO if possible). Blackbird is ADA compliant, with a wheelchair accessible entrance and parking spaces.
