When someone's says to you "JUST GET OVER IT "
STANDING ON MY SOAP BOX TODAY

“Get over it?”
Sure. Let’s talk about what we’re supposed to “get over.”

🌍 THE ENVIRONMENT
Fast fashion relies on huge volumes of cheap clothing being produced, transported and discarded.

💧 THE WATER
Textile production uses enormous amounts of water — and dyeing and finishing fabrics can contribute to water pollution.

🗑️ THE WASTE
Clothes are being made faster than we can realistically wear them.
Millions of tonnes of textiles end up being discarded every year.

🧵 THE CLOTHES
Cheap doesn’t always mean good value.
Poorer-quality garments can mean shorter lifespans → more buying → more waste.

👗 THE “WE ONLY WORE IT ONCE” PROBLEM
Trends change.
Hauls happen.
Closets fill up.
And perfectly wearable clothes get pushed aside.

👥 AND THEN THERE ARE THE PEOPLE
The true cost of ultra-cheap fashion can include pressure on workers, low wages and poor working conditions across global supply chains.

Fashion doesn’t have to cost the earth. 🌍
“Get over it?”
Nah...
I’d rather get over fast fashion

Late Night Thrift: Rocky Horror Edition ❤ @whatsonincapetown

"Observatory has always been synonymous with second-hand style, but this coming First Thursday, 7 May 2026, the neighbourhood is stretching its afterhours energy into something new. This edition of Late Night Thrift takes on a playful twist with a Rocky Horror Show theme, inviting visitors to step into a more theatrical side of Obs’s thrift scene. Expect shops transformed for the night, rails filled with Rocky Horror-inspired finds, and a crowd that’s just as dressed up as the displays."

Obs showed up 🖤

The first Late Night Thrift turned Lower Main into a moving trail of vintage, music, and after-hours energy - with shops, studios, and local spots opening late and the streets fully alive.

From rack to rack, stop to stop, it felt less like an event and more like a community moment - easy, social, and full of good finds.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made it what it was.

Late nights, good music, and racks on racks of vintage ♻️

Obs is doing First Thursdays a little differently this time… think a walkable thrift trail through Lower Main. Every stop = a new find, a new era, a new excuse to keep digging a little longer. From Y2K gems and one-of-a-kind statement pieces to vinyl hunts, quick cocktail stops and pizza breaks — it’s less about where you end up and more about what you find along the way.

Come thrift the night with us. Bring your people, dress like your best find… and maybe leave with your next favourite piece 🖤
