🎨 Here are a few reminders of some of the skills OT can help with:

💚 hand dexterity, strength and coordination
💚 sensory awareness, self-regulation, and body awareness
💚 hand-eye coordination, visual discrimination, and spatial awareness
💚 dressing, feeding, hygiene and grooming skills
💚 handwriting skills: pencil grasp, letter formation and spacing, tracing and drawing shapes
💚 attention and focus, problem solving, organization and sequencing

Tummy Time means placing your baby on their tummy while awake and supervised. It’s crucial because:

1️⃣ Strengthens Muscles: Helps develop neck, back, and shoulder muscles for crawling and sitting up.

2️⃣ Improves Motor Skills: Babies learn to control movements, enhancing coordination.

3️⃣ Prevents Flat Spots: Reduces the risk of flat spots on the head.

4️⃣ Sensory Development: Stimulates visual and sensory experiences.

5️⃣ Bonding Time: Quality interaction with parents promotes security and love.

Service to country and community are among the core values I was raised by and feel strongly obliged to integrate into my life and work as a Bahamian and pediatric physiotherapist.

Thrive has had the privilege to volunteer and donate time and therapy services weekly to the amazing children at The Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled (BAPD), a non-profit that cares, schools, feeds, and uplifts special needs children in the pursuit of functional independence.

Today, the BAPD received a generous donation from The Bahamar Resort Foundation of $60,000 that will go toward the success and betterment of this super deserving and important youth community. I am only grateful to be a part of both this benevolent endeavour as well as the actionable change for our young people in this 50th year of Independence. 🇧🇸🩵
