August, Beyond The Crown. 👑

Five books. A very questionable amount of Wheels on the Bus Techno. A new she-shed chair. A few lessons learned. And one big idea that brought home a win. 💵

Swipe through Issue No. 3 → And tell me: what should I read, watch or listen to in September?

Houston, you showed up.

Compound Houston, our 5 year anniversary edition of the Culture & Conversations Mixer Experience was everything we hoped it would be and more. The energy, the conversations, and the community in that room last night reminded us exactly why we build these spaces.

As promised, we gave back. On behalf of everyone who purchased a ticket and supported this event, JQ Lifestyle Group was honored to present a donation to @thrivehouseinc, which is powered by @everydopegirl + @everydopeman, who is doing incredible work in the Houston community around educational advancement.

Thank you to every single person who showed up, bought a ticket, shared the event, or simply believed in what we’re building. You are the room.

Dallas, you’re up next!

A room full of big ideas, bold founders, and people genuinely rooting for one another. ✨

We started with 14 founders, narrowed it down to five incredible finalists, and ended the night with one Summer Select winner. But the real win? Every finalist walked away with funding to continue building their vision.

From the pitches and connections to the checks, hugs, and celebration, the room was filled with proof that community and opportunity can change what’s possible for an entrepreneur.

Summer Select: The Networking Mixer, Vol. 3. 🥂

This was only the beginning.

Such an amazing evening celebrating 5 years of @jqlifestylegroup! 🥂✨

I loved how intentional the experience felt, from meeting professionals across tech, culture, and education to connecting through @getmixle. The app matched attendees based on what we were looking for in the moment, making it so easy to start conversations and meet new people. Definitely a fun way to make networking feel less like networking!

And the venue?! @fairfaxhtx was the perfect backdrop…Intimate, elevated, & STUNNING. 🤍

I also loved that a portion of ticket proceeds went toward supporting educational advancement here in Houston. Definitely the kind of after-work plan I’ll always say yes to.

Whew, this is a long post, but it’s really a testimony about how far God can bring you. 🙌🏾

A year ago, I was looking for a job and decided to start a podcast. I knew communication and storytelling were gifts God had given me, but I also knew I hadn’t fully explored them. I was scared. I was unsure. Still, I decided to bet on myself and start anyway.

Fast-forward one year. With encouragement from some amazing people in my life, I took that same idea and applied to the Thrive House Business Accelerator.

Throughout the accelerator, I learned so much and met people who inspired me to believe that I could truly become an entrepreneur. I entered the program unsure of how I could turn my podcast into a business. Through God, guidance, and an incredible mentor, I left with Career Capital, a tech platform that has already received interest from potential investors. 🙏🏾

On August 5, we pitched our businesses to four judges, who would select the finalists for the overall pitch competition. When I tell y’all I practiced that pitch everywhere, I mean everywhere. My family and friends probably know it word for word by now. 😂

And I made it to the finals!

Honestly, I didn’t enter the competition expecting to win. I simply wanted to do a good job, communicate my vision clearly, and prove to myself that I belonged in the room. Through faith, prayer, preparation, and a whole lot of practice, I was selected as a finalist and given the opportunity to showcase something deeply personal to me: my passion, my baby, Career Capital.

I cannot wait to continue this journey as a tech founder and share everything I learn along the way.

A very special thank-you to my friends and family, @thrivehouseinc, @everydopegirl, Every Dope Man, and the CEO herself, @raishasmith Smith. I could not have done this without your encouragement, guidance, and belief in me. I cannot wait to see where this technology takes us. one else’s ideas. Always bet on yourself. And remember, if it doesn’t scare you, it probably won’t change you.

Love y’all. Bye! 🤎✨

Thriving Thursday w/ EveryDopeGirl & Thrive House

I recently had the opportunity to attend EveryDopeGirl’s Summer Select Vol. 3 networking event, curated by the incredible @raishasmith . ✨

This year’s experience was especially meaningful as @everydopegirl launched their new foundation, Thrive House; created to mentor, empower, and provide funding opportunities for those of the @everydopegirl & @everydopeman communities.

The event also spotlighted some of the founders who are part of the foundation’s 1st Impact Accelerator Cohort

Two words: IMPACTFUL and INSPIRED.
