POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi everyone! My name is Shreya and I am a software engineer at a health insurance company. I majored in bioinformatics in college and took just enough computer science coursework to pursue the software engineering career track. .
Over the years I’ve found immense joy in helping others improve their skills. If I can suggest two virtues to develop, they would be clear communication and persistence — these have changed the game for my career and personal life. If you’re reading this and if there’s anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

My biggest tip for getting through social distancing is to avoid dwelling on the negatives! I remind myself how easy I have it sitting at home. To keep motivated, my biggest tip is to make detailed plans for the day right before bed the night before. I like to set up mini goals for every couple hours. If you choose to try this at home - remember not to be too hard on yourself if you don’t accomplish everything!
Cheers!

My name is Shreya🙋 ⁣ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⁣
I am a backend software engineer in sunny San Diego - located in the United States. ☀️ I started my journey studying bioinformatics in college and took just enough computer science coursework to pursue the software engineering career track. ⁣ ⁣

Of course, there were plenty of challenges along the way. For one, I was coming out of a bachelors degree program but not in the traditional computer science major. Another giant hurdle was getting over the biased treatment that comes with being a woman in tech. My best advice for overcoming these obstacles was to first recognize and accept them. I would then figure out how to refer to these difficulties into selling points about myself. For example, I would market my bioinformatics degree to my interviewers by showing off the cool python scripting I learned and demonstrating my ability to handle large volumes of data! 📈 Or I would describe my perspective as a young woman in tech as a new, fresh set of ideas that their team didn’t already have but desperately needed.⁣ ⁣

Over the years I’ve found immense joy in helping others improve their skills. Through a little series on my page called #ReactResiliently, my goal is to help aspiring women in tech (and other groups too, of course!) feel empowered to make their voices heard and equip them with strategies to resiliently handle difficult situations. 💪🏼 ⁣ ⁣
