“Never work for exposure.”

I understand why people say it. Exposure alone doesn’t pay the bills or make someone respect your time.

But when I first started, I didn’t have a portfolio, clients, or much proof that I could actually do this. Some of the work I did for free gave me the experience, relationships, and opportunities I needed to grow.

The goal was never to work for free forever.
The goal was to keep creating until people saw the value in what I do, and until this became something real.

Some free shoots became paid shoots.
Some became friendships.
Some became opportunities I never could’ve planned for.

So no, I don’t completely agree.

Exposure isn’t the product. But sometimes, it’s the first step toward building something worth paying for.
