🎬 Jim Jones – Rap City Freestyle | BET, 2000s

🎤 Artist: Jim Jones
🎵 Freestyle: Rap City
📺 Show: BET’s Rap City
🎥 Archive cut

Harlem’s Jim Jones, one of the founding voices of The Diplomats, stepping into the Rap City booth during the Dipset era. For nearly two decades, from 1989 to 2008, Rap City was where artists came to prove themselves live, no studio tricks, just the mic and the crowd behind them.

Who remembers watching Rap City after school? 👀

Nas painting the old Harlem gangster era like a Scorsese film 🎩 His verse on “Real N****s” (with Ruc) off the QB’s Finest compilation — Bumpy Johnson style, crocodile shoes, applejack hats, Cadillacs with chrome spokes… nobody writes the streets more cinematic than Esco.

Lil Wayne on the importance of repetition 🗣️🗣️🗣️

From 2003 to 2011, Lil Wayne was truly the best rapper alive. Hov had retired and left the throne untouched for a bit. Though weezy pulled up and snatched that sh within a matter of moments after Jay left. The early 2000s were a Wild West of mixtapes and high budget album releases but one man dominated both.

Lil Wayne worked tirelessly in the studio cutting track after track and his work ethic was still a topic of discussion to this day. In this clip he stressed the important of repetition and what it leads to. All of the fruits of his labor came from the repetition of working, recording and promoting his music.

There’s a number of these style of clips that are out there on the internet, but Wayne stares directly at the camera and speaks his mind. Wisdom, history and real culture that survives with each of this clips. Wayne forever a goat 🗣️🗣️🗣️
