In the woods with friends, always thankful to hear the 16mm roll through the gate.

Danger tree jumped over narrow gauge rail. The ground was too steep to safely get these trees to stick in the hillside, even climbing them and rounding them out wouldn’t keep the material on the hillside. Halfway down a 700’ cliff the only option was to jump it over the already damaged narrow gauge rail for future safety (the roots are undercut on the far side) . We don’t get this option very often.

The ‘Man vs. Trunk’ fight took about 20 total hours over a few week period. It was touch and go up until the end when the trunk finally gave up.

Decent stand of timber. I was able to get four 33’ cuts out of this one.

Second to last tree on the job, a large Douglas Fir. She took a little wedging to get over. It was a tight shot in between structures.

Hard to tell from the perspective of the video: it’s a very tight little unit with rough ground and big stumps. Each one of these Western Red Cedar stems if fell intact can go for a high dollar as transmission telephone poles. Every foot you are able to save them out equates to a significant amount on the back end. With the value of these specialty sorts in mind sometimes it is worth the time to spring board up to get a cleaner cut and a softer lay. ~ Fun Fact~ Our forefathers use to spring board up the big swell butted cedar and fall them with nothing but an axe and an old misery whip. Next time your in the woods look out for old growth cedar stumps, you can still see the spring board holes in them over 100years later.
