Remember when @tiadeshazor (Tia deshazor) @falalalexa (Alexa Smith) and Children’s educator and content creator Ms. Rachel (@msrachelforlittles ) was drawing attention for using her platform to encourage support for Black-owned businesses while recognizing the significance of Juneteenth.

Her message sparked conversations across social media, with many praising her willingness to celebrate Black history, culture, and entrepreneurship. Supporters say that spotlighting Black-owned businesses helps strengthen local communities, create economic opportunities, and preserve generations of creativity and innovation.

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a day of reflection, education, celebration, and community empowerment.

At BlackDiarylove, we believe conversations surrounding culture, history, and economic empowerment help encourage greater understanding while reminding communities of the importance of investing in one another.

What are your thoughts? Do public figures have a role in encouraging support for Black owned businesses and recognizing cultural observances like Juneteenth? Join the conversation respectfully below.

Our work has taken many surprising forms as we’ve transitioned to meet the needs of our community, through industry shifts, strikes, and shutdowns. Now, we’re embracing a new way of serving our community. Each week, in addition to bringing you the BOLD Weekly, we’ll also be in your inbox with The BOLD Four. We’re bringing you four quick, but restorative moves to make each week.
And this week, as we embrace change and transition, we invite you to move through this season with us.
